FUN FACT
We all know that peppers come in different shapes & sizes. But did you know that among the usual red, green & yellow peppers, you can find purple, black, orange &
white bell peppers? There's even a brown pepper called a chocolate pepper!
It's not surprising that kids go crazy for the Pezza Farm grown variety.  Confreda Farms grows "suntan" peppers that are a pretty combination of green & orange. Try incorporating different colors into your menus - kids love to eat the rainbow!

Meet Onelissa Martinez
Farm Fresh RI's new
Farm to Cafeteria Associate!

Onelissa (Onne) has been at Farm Fresh RI for over a year. She has done F2S programs, worked with our local food access program & is now looking forward to collaborating with RI School Wellness Committees to continue the support for more healthy, local foods in our cafeterias!
We're happy to announce that EVERY RI school district has signed up for Harvest of the Month! Over 67,000 students in almost 300 Rhode Island school cafeterias will be enjoying Rhode Island Grown produce this harvest season. (Some hospitals, senior dining centers & college/universities are getting in on Harvest of the Month too!)

For October, the featured RI Grown item is peppers. We'll be distributing the pepper posters & stickers for elementary school students, at the September 24th Breakfast for School Leaders Symposium.

We've tried to contact all HOM participants to schedule delivery of September posters & stickers.  We will be getting them to you by the time school begins in your district. If you haven't made arrangements for a delivery yet, contact Kim Clark.

SHARE THE NEWS WITH EDUCATORS

Farm Fresh will be sending a monthly Harvest of the Month newsletter to school administrators & teachers in participating districts. We will provide examples of morning announcements on the subject of Harvest of the Month, suggest educational activities & identify on-line resources for teachers interested in celebrating HOM in the classroom. We'll make a reading list for libraries & offer recipes for Family & Consumer Science classes. If you have suggestions on folks who would appreciate receiving this newsletter, please let us know!
