Red Cross of R.I. to Honor
Skip Buxton with Life Saving Hero Award

QDC's Skip Buxton
The Quonset Development Corporation's (QDC) own, Skip Buxton will be among four individuals honored by the American Red Cross of Rhode Island at this year's Heroes Breakfast in Providence. A pier master at the Port of Davisville, Buxton will be recognized with the Life Saving Hero Award.

Skip used his Red Cross refresher training in CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) last December to help save the life of a longshoreman who was having cardiac arrest. The life saving moment was retold in detail by both Channel 10's Kerri Corrado and the Providence Journal's Mark Patinkin.

"Our annual Heroes event is one of the most inspiring moments of the year," said American Red Cross and Rhode Island Chapter Executive Tempie Thompson. "We honor people and organizations that do extraordinary things. They symbolize the best in the human spirit and reflect the Red Cross ideal of helping others."

"We saw some truly impressive nominations, but these honorees rose to the forefront for making a difference - in some cases, a lifesaving difference - in their communities and are true heroes," added Thompson.

The breakfast will be held on Friday, October 23.  To learn more about the event and how you can attend, click here.

QDC Honored with
'What's RIght About RI' Award
(Left to Right) Ray Thomas (Bryant University), Kevin Barry (Quonset Development Corp),
and Mike Lyons (Pawtucket Red Sox)

The Pawtucket Red Sox and Bryant University's John H. Chafee Center for International Business honored the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) with their "What's RIght About RI" award at McCoy Stadium earlier this month. The award was established in 2013 to recognize organizations and companies for their contributions to the state and that offer an example of why Rhode Island is a wonderful place to live, work and do business.

"Quonset Business Park is a prime example of how we can help move Rhode Island's economy forward with innovation, investment, and perseverance," said Ray Fogarty, director of Bryant University's Chafee Center for International Business. "Developing a site-readiness program that can have a company's shovels in the ground within 90 days, marketing its Port to automotive manufacturers around the globe, and modernizing its infrastructure to promote private investment are key accomplishments of the QDC's leadership of the Park."

Kevin M. Barry, finance director for the QDC and a Pawtucket native was on hand to receive the award.

"We are honored to be recognized by both the PawSox and Bryant University's Chafee Center for this special award," said Barry. "The QDC is committed to helping companies grow their business and create more jobs at Quonset because we know Rhode Island is a place where they can succeed and flourish."

Previous honorees include Amica Insurance, Gilbane, Care New England, Benny's, Quonset tenant Ocean State Job Lot, and Tiffany Co., among others. To see the full press release, click here.
