Job Club RI Offers Quonset Tenants
Additional Route to Fill Jobs
Job Club RI, a job placement program that seeks to match qualified unemployed workers with employers, is hoping to connect its members with Quonset's nearly 200 companies. Unlike other programs in the state, Job Club RI job seekers are middle-income, middle-age, and skilled or semi-skilled - a segment of the workforce that has seen challenges in the current job search environment.
The program relies on an innovative approach to job hunting. Unemployed workers who join the organization meet weekly over six weeks in a group setting to hone interview techniques, develop resumes, and build networking skills. Its members have access to a local job bank of 45 major employers in the state who are working with Job Club RI to assist individuals with finding meaningful and living wage employment. Hopefully, additional companies from Quonset will also join the effort.
"The model we use at Job Club RI is a proven success," said Stephen Colella, founder and director of the organization. "We take pride in matching our members with job opportunities that best use their skills, so that we're helping the employee by placing him or her in a good job and we're helping the employer by connecting them with a qualified new hire."
"The program's success rate speaks for itself. 68 percent of those who participated in the program have gone on to find jobs," said Steven J. King, managing director of the Quonset Business Park. "We're hopeful some of our tenants will recognize the value in Job Club RI and explore ways the organization might help meet their employment needs."
