You cannot engage in a conversation with anyone, on any level, in the State of Maryland about entrepreneurship and not hear the name of Omar Muhammad. One of the most respected voices of entrepreneurial  innovation and commitment to the community, Mr. Muhammad is an entrepreneur, Director of the EDAC at Morgan State University, and the host of Briefcase Radio on WEAA FM. We are grateful that Mr. Muhammad had the time to share his experience and insight with the College of Business faculty and staff. His expertise helps keep us relevant and better able to prepare our students for success.

National Conference 2014 Chicago

The theme of the 2014 ACBSP Conference was "Engaged Learning in the Digital Age." Representatives from business schools around the world gathered from June 27th through the 30th, 2014 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois. Dean Ron Williams, Dr. Emmanuel Anouruo, and Ms. Clarice Tate of the College of Business were among the thousands of attendees who came for enrichment and information about improving the delivery of academic programs.

As the only academic unit at Coppin offering a fully online degree, the theme was particularly relevant. The information about cutting-edge instructional technology and instructional methodologies that facilitate learning in digital formats will assist the College of Business in its efforts to remain competitive and effective.

We are in hopes of bringing our initial accreditation to a successful close during the 2015 academic year. Participation in learning opportunities like the ACBSP National Conference will greatly assist in accomplishing that goal.

Dean's List Celebration

The Talon Center Atrium was filled with students, their families, faculty, staff, and other well-wishers as we celebrated the achievements of those who made the Spring 2014 Dean's List.
Eligibility is based in a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, completion of at least 12 graduation credits, and no grades of D, F, CS, or I.

The growing emphasis on student learning outcomes and student engagement is creating an climate where academic success is intentionally celebrated as a part of the culture in the College of Business. The commitment to this emphasis is evident in the number of faculty seen assisting students in the Tutorial Lab outside of routine class time.

We applaud the achievements of our scholars and look forward to them competing and reaching high achievements in the business world.

Dr. Victoria Miller

COB Faculty Wins
ACBSP "Best in Region" Award

We were represented well by Dr. Victoria Miller, Interim Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing at the 2014 Region 2 ACBSP Conference. The conference was held at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC on November 6th and 7th. Dr. Miller's presentation  entitled: "Creating Experiential Learning Opportunities - Effectively Utilizing an Executive In Residence and Designing a Professional Development Program for Students" won Best Presentation honors. She will represent Region 2 at the ACBSP 2015 National Conference in Philadelphia.

Executives in Residence are highly accomplished senior executives who devote a significant amount of time to a business school.  An Executive in Residence can play a key role in creating unique experiential learning opportunities for students, especially in the context of a professional development program. They also bring their expertise from their particular industry, along with resources and contacts to enhance the educational experience of a student outside of the classroom.

Thank you Dr. Miller for making us "Coppin Proud."

The Crossroads of International Intellectual Property Lead to Coppin

United States Office of Patent and Trademark Officials Talk Innovation

The December 1, 2014 meeting with Mr. Anthony Knight and Mr. Dennis Forbes of the Office of Innovation Development in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) was timely and in line with the strategic direction of the College of Business. They came to discuss how the College of Business may play a role in advancing innovation and greater understanding of intellectual property. The meeting resulted in an agreement to collaborate on projects that will further mutually beneficial objectives.

In addition to the commitment to work with the College of Business, the USPTO representatives also had the opportunity to meet Dr. Yo Soon Song from the Chonam National University Intellectual Property Office in Gwangju, South Korea. Dr. Song was visiting to discuss possible collaborations between Chonam National and Coppin State.

We're looking forward to the great work that will emerge from the new relationships.

Students Attend 14th Annual Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Leadership Conference

Coppin students once again traveled to Washington DC to participate in the annual Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Leadership Conference. The conference allows students to gain valuable networking experience and attend sessions that will further their professional development. It's not uncommon for students to leave the conference with commitments from major employers for internships and other opportunities.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) has a three-fold mission: 1. Partner with our member-schools to increase access, retention and graduation rates of students, 2. Identify and prepare students attending member-schools who have significant leadership potential, and 3. Create a pipeline for employers to highly-qualified member-school students and alumni

Please contact Regina Brannum, College of Business student coordinator (Click here), if you are interested in opportunities offered by the TMCF.

Building the Connection with Coppin Academy

Dean Williams had the wonderful opportunity to spend time during the fall semester with two bright young men from Coppin Academy, the charter school located on our campus. Darian Hale and Brandon Ingram are dually enrolled students who are taking an Introduction to Business course in the College of Business. "The opportunity to hear the dreams and aspirations of these young men firsthand has inspired us to step up our engagement," says Dean Williams. "They speak very clearly about who they want us to help them become. The only questions is, are we up to their challenge."

The College of Business is committed to:

1. inclusion of Coppin Academy students in activities that lead them along a path to success in business careers.

2. building our capacity to provide resources and mentoring beyond the classroom.

3. developing effective management of dually enrolled students taking a college level courses in the
College of Business .

Our aim is to collaborate with the rest of the CSU community to build pathways to greatness for all students within our sphere of influence.

Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct Professor Matthew Minson
Professor Matthew Minson: Giving Back

It doesn't seem like long ago that  Professor Matthew Minson was Matthew Minson the student in what was then the Department of Management Science and Economics. In the same way that the department progressed and pursued excellence, so did one of its very accomplished alumni. Graduating in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Management Science concentrating in accounting, Professor Minson then received his master's degree from Walden University in Human Resource Management.

Returning to Coppin as an adjunct professor has been much more than filler for his resume. It's part of his passion to give back and pay forward some of the value he received as a student in what is now the College of Business.

Professor Minson's passion for "paying forward" has unsurprisingly led him to his current position as Constituent Services Officer with the State of Maryland Comptroller, serving as a liaison between the Comptroller and Baltimore City residents, businesses, and community leaders.

We are proud of Professor Minson and the value he brings to the College of Business students and classrooms.

Message From The Dean
"As our institutions once produced teachers who helped launch many into the middle class, socio-economic progress is now dependent on our ability to produce wealth and economic value driven by an entrepreneurial class."

Ronald C. Williams, PhD
Interim Dean

We come to the close of another semester feeling very positive about the measurable progress we're making for all who are trusting us to position them for career success. Our progress toward ACBSP accreditation, developing enrollment growth strategies, and building sustainability will move us closer to realizing our vision of being "the first choice" for high quality student-centered business education." The 2014 fall semester serves as evidence that this lofty vision is not just within reach, it's closer than we realize. Persistent effort, insistence on accountability, unwavering commitment, and the courage to selflessly do what is best for our students will produce results in which others will invest.

Our priorities are clear. In accordance with the mission of Coppin State University and the College of Business, we are dedicating our energy to "unleashing the spirit of innovation" in ways that propel our students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders into success. This means we must constantly develop strategies and implement "game changing" programs. The unleashing of this innovative spirit was evidenced in activities like the First Annual COB Pitch Competition and Recognition Program (Click here to see highlights). Inviting students from across disciplines, the corporate community, seasoned entrepreneurs, and others to participate in an evening of sharing and assessing innovative business ideas enabled us to contribute to the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the University and the broader community. This semester also saw the establishment of our Dean's Advisory Board, which consists of corporate and community leaders who are dedicated to working to advance the the College of Business with innovative recommendations and advice.

I invite you to continue to observe the College of Business from an evaluative perspective.  We recognize that continuous improvement is spawned by feedback from all interested parties. Our overall direction and strategy for success continues to be captured in our " BG Model for Development for the Academic Enterprise." (see below) This model provides a blueprint for moving the College of Business into a position of prominence that inspires investment from stakeholders and supporters. As we move into the Spring 2015 semester, we will fan the flames of innovation even more vigorously. We all will be the beneficiaries. We're all in this together.

Ronald C. Williams, PhD
Interim Dean

Accreditation Update

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence. The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn how to learn.

ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide. Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in 2001 and again in 2011, ACBSP was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels.

Proactive Advising Boosts COB
College of Business Graduation and Retention

The College of Business is committed to proactive advising that involves students in a collaborative system of planning, tracking, and continuous management of their academic careers. Whether it's through our Chat & Chew Sessions, New Student Orientation, Road to Degree Completion events, or other activities, we're committed to guiding our students through the academic experience and positioning them for success.  Our efforts are paying off. We're leaving the fall semester with approximately 65% of our students pre-enrolled, a new high for the COB. We're also on pace to increase our graduation by 10% this year. The plan is working and we will continue to work the plan.

Di Maria (2006) observes that research has shown that the more actively engaged students are in all aspects of college life, the more likely they are to learn and stay in school.
Recruitment
Communicating Value:
What will we position them to do?

Recruiting is essential to the life and growth of the academic unit. As we see increases in our graduation rates, it becomes even more critical that we attract more students into the academic pipeline.

Our approach includes demonstrating and communicating value. When College of Business team members (students, faculty, staff) refer to a "culture of assessment," it's more than just an catch phrase. We understand that our outcomes will communicate the value students come to receive. For example, our goal of a minimum of 75% of our graduates completing internships will contribute to a higher placement rate. The higher placement rate will translate into value to which students and parents will easily relate.

We believe we offer the best value in business education for those who fall within the purview of our mission. It's no secret that we can't compete with the advertising budgets of other institutions and we shouldn't try. Our recruitment success is lies in being able to communicate to potential students and stakeholders what we are able to position them to achieve.

We want you "in our business." You will know us by our numbers.

Community & Public Sector Engagement

National Directors of the Minority Business Development Agency and the US Patent & Trademark Offices Come to Celebrate Minority Innovation and Entrepreneurship

A November meeting with representatives from the United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has resulted in another opportunity for the Coppin State University College of Business and the community we serve. On February 12, 2015, the College of Business will host a special event  featuring Alejandra Castillo National Director of the US Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency and Michelle Lee, Under Secretary of Commerce and National Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office. Recognizing the significance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities to the US economy and their production of intellectual capital and innovative energy, it is certainly appropriate that the MBDA and the US Patent and Trademark Leadership would choose to visit the CSU College of Business, especially during the celebration of African American History Month.

The visit speaks to our potential and place, not just in the local scheme, but in the economic future of the nation. Our institutions have the responsibility of preparing the workforce and developing entrepreneurial leaders who will sustain the competitiveness of our nation. The CSU College of Business is a vital contributor to the fulfillment of that responsibility and we are glad to be chosen as the site for such a significant event.

Faculty and Staff Development
Brown Bag Sessions Spur Intellectual Exchange

Professional development for faculty is critical to the quality of academic programs and the ability of the College of Business to sustain excellence in instruction. It's an informal contract between the university, each individual faculty, and the academic unit in which they serve. The university has an interest in facilitating the development of faculty for the purpose of advancing the overall academic mission. Faculty receive a direct benefit from professional development. It facilitates their advancement and positioning for their career. Professional development activities enable the academic unit to balance the demands of the university, external accrediting bodies, and others while creating a climate in which professional improvement is valued and encouraged.

College of Business Professional Development Sessions provide opportunities to present working papers or conference presentations, invite experts, discuss paths to tenure and promotion, and more. It is truly a forum for the exchange of ideas.

If you want to learn more about our Professional Development Program, contact Dr. Emmanuel Anoruo at 410-951-3446 or email eanoruo@coppin.edu.

Ikeshia West Presents at Staff Technology Conference: Making the Connection with Blackboard Connect

Our ability to proactively engage students has been an important part of our increasing graduation and retention. Developing relationships with students and effective pathways of communication are essential. The responsibility belongs to everyone including staff, faculty, and students.

Ms. Ikeshia West delivered a presentation at the Fall 2014 Staff Technology Conference on "Making the Connection with Blackboard Connect." Blackboard Connect is a mass notification communication system that enables us to quickly reach our students with vital information. It's another communication tool in our arsenal and is making a tremendous difference in our ability to connect with students.

We applaud Ms. West for her use of technology for the benefit of our students. We also appreciate her willingness to share her experience with member of the campus community who may also benefit.

Assessment (including Senior Exit Data)
Assessment in much more that tracking grades. Comprehensive assessment includes all data that may be used as benchmarks for progress. In that regard, we collect information from multiple data points to guide us in our goal of continuous improvement. Our senior exit survey is a great example of this kind of assessment data. We want to know: Why did our students chose to us? Were we their first choice? Did they work while attending school? Were courses well taught? Did the program prepare you well for your profession? Such question expose the experience of our students and enable us to look into the "mirror" of assessment. This is the pathway to improvement and an academic product into which supporters will invest.

In addition, the College of Business is currently in its fifth test cycle using BB Outcome Assessment system. As a result of the Spring 2013 pilot, the college was able to capture trend data on written communication and critical thinking and continues to evaluate at other learning outcomes as data becomes available.

For more on assessment, contact Dr. S. Mushonga, Assessment Committee Chair or Ms. C. Tate, Director of Special Programs and Accreditation Coordinator.

Times Community Services, Inc. Speaker Series Reaches New Heights

The Times Community Services (TCS), CSU College of Business Speaker Series continues to reach new heights. Building on years of success, on October 15, 2014, the speakers series was pleased to welcome Nicholas Abrams, owner of AJW Financial Partners LLC as its keynote speaker. In a boardroom filled with corporate leaders from the region and College of Business students, Mr. Abrams was able to share insight into his success and connect with students is a way that prepares them for success in the corporate culture.

One of the keys to the success of the speaker series is the format that is conducive to the sharing of information; but it's also the exposure to corporate leaders and the professional networking experience that makes the event so valuable to students. Fifteen corporate leaders are strategically seated between 15 business students in a manner that is conducive to lunch and conversation. An additional component to the event is the preparation that many of the students receive prior to the event. The majority of the students in the fall 2014 session received networking training as a part of their Business Leaders of the Future Program led by Dr. Victoria Miller. The evidence of their preparation is evident in the positive impression College of Business students make on the corporate leadership. "Our students are sought for internships and other opportunities. That's very gratifying." states Dean Williams. " This is evidence that we're on the right track because internships often convert into post-graduate permanent job placements."

We are grateful for our sponsor, Times Community Services Inc. Mrs. Joy Bramble and her team led by Mr. Ackneill Muldrow are helping to create pathways to success for College of Business students.

Online Update
It's that time!!!

With the enrollment in online education increasing, it is important to the competitiveness of our institution that we enlist all available educational delivery systems and make them available to current and potential students. The College of Business has the privileged of offering Coppin's only completely online degree for a couple of years. Being the "first mover" comes with many advantages as well as challenges. Both must be approached with the interest of the students as our priority. "Having a couple of years of experience behind us is an advantage for us now" states Dr. Williams, Interim Dean of the College of Business." Whether the course is delivered in a face-to-face format, hybrid, or completely online, measurable learning outcomes are what determine their success."

In the Spring of 2015, The College of Business is launching an aggressive effort to connect with local employers and community institutions as part of an effort to inform them about the advantages of online education. Busy work schedules and other life demands create situations where face-to-face class attendance becomes less practical. Local online student have the benefit of online flexibility with convenient access to student services. It's  the best of both worlds.

Feel free to contact Ms. Franklyn at 410-951-6432 or email her at hfranklyn@coppin.edu for information about the Online Management Degree Program.

Alumni
Alum Tamirra Lucas
"Mompreneur"

The accomplishments of College of Business alumni seem to know no limits. Whether you're referencing the corporate sector, public sector, entrepreneurial sphere, or graduate studies, our graduates are always among the number. Ms. Tamirra Lucas is one of our graduates who is challenging the limits of her abilities in the business world. A 2009 graduate of the College of Business, Ms. Lucas acquired her MBA from Strayer University in 2012 and is slated to receive her doctorate in business administration from Walden University in 2016, concentrating in entrepreneurship.

In addition to Ms. Lucas's stellar academic achievements, she has demonstrated the desire to give back by serving as a judge at the recent College of Business Pitch Competition held in November 2014 and assisting in developing the framework for the College of Business Mentor Program. Ms. Lee is in continuous demand as a speaker and the recipient of numerous awards. She is one of Baltimore's 92q 2014, Top 30 under 30, co-founder of MAE (Moms As Entrepreneurs), founder of The Beauty and The BOSS Empowerment Brunch, and has served as featured speaker for such groups as the The Coalition of 100 Black Women Mentoring Program.

Her accomplishments and community service endeavors are too many to mention in this limited space. We are tremendously proud of our College of Business alum, Tamirra Lucas.

Four Students Win Honors at First Annual Pitch Competition

What a night! Students, corporate leaders, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders filled room 103 in the Health and Human Services Building for the First Annual College of Business Pitch Competition. Our special guest moderator, Mr. Omar Mohammed, led the panel of judges and student competitors through an evening during which entrepreneurial minds and the spirit of innovation were on full display. Special guest judges were: 1. Ms. Tammira Lucas, entrepreneur and COB alum, 2. Dr. Victoria Miller, Interim Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing, and 3. Calvin Watkins, President and CEO of Chosen Media, Inc.

Participants were each given five minutes to pitch their entrepreneurial idea and received five minutes of questioning from judges. After the spirited presentation and discussion, the results were as follows:

- Ms. Azizat Famuditimi, First Place
- Mr. Lawrence Amadi, Second Place
- Mr. Justin Brown, Third Place
- Ms. Amber Sweet, Fourth Place

The significance of the event was enhanced by signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding between the Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce and the College of Business. The MOU establishes a platform for mutually beneficial programming.

The previously mentioned activities would have been enough to make for a successful evening. But just when those in attendance were feeling as if the recognition of senior graduates and the pitch had provided plenty to celebrate, the audience receive the benefit of meeting Mr. Kwame Kuadey, Baltimore's own winner of ABC's Shark Tank whose business, Gift Card Rescue, Inc. is on pace to bring in $10 million in revenue if 2014.

The evening was concluded with refreshments and a networking session that gave all attendees an opportunity to connect, share, and build relationships.

The College of Business is on the move!

Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce Chair, Del. Barbara Robinson, Signs Historic Agreement with the CSU College of Business

Engagement with the business community is not just an option for the College of Business, it's an absolute necessity. The connection helps to build relevant academic programming, connect our students with real-world experiences, and provide valuable placement opportunities for our graduates.

The presence of the GBBCC Executive Board is indicative of the kind of relationships that will help the College of Business achieve its vision of being a "first choice" institution that is connected to the community. The value of the relationship has already begun to pay dividends. Two of the student contestants were so impressive in their presentations that they received internship and mentorship commitments from GBBCC members during the event. We're looking for great things from the COB / GBBCC Partnership.

Ivan Thomas
4.0 Transfer from Stevenson Accepts PRT Reach Foundation "A. Tyrous (Terry) Addison" Scholarship

If anyone ever raises the question, "Why choose the Coppin State University College of Buiness?" Send them to speak with Ivan Thomas. Ivan is a transfer student from Stevenson University with a 4.0 GPA. He was first attracted to Coppin by the unique degree program in Sport Management. An avid sports fan and former athlete, Ivan aspires to acquire his JD and pursue a career in sports compliance with the NFL's Players' Union.

It was a pleasure to present Ivan with the $3500.00 A. Tyrous (Terry) Addison Scholarship given by the Presidents RoundTable Foundation.
The President's RoundTable is an organization of the 18 leading African American entrepreneurs in Baltimore whose company's represent over $80 million dollars in revenue. Their investment in Ivan and other students from HBCUs will pay dividends in generations to come. I'm confident that Ivan will make them proud.

"Business Leaders of the Future" Interact with Corporate Leaders

The College of Business is dedicated to providing the extra-curricular activities that are necessary for career development. We strategically prepare our students and expose them to practical experiences that shape their professional presence. One such experience is the brainchild of Dr. Victoria Miller known as Business Leaders of the Future. There were eight students in the Fall 2014 cohort: Regina Brannum,
Deandra Daniel, Delroy Davis
Shelby Mendoza, Joshua Ned
Danielle Smith, Ronald Smith, and Daniel Ukpong.

The Business Leaders of the Future were prepared and expose to a series of lectures by leaders from business and academia. Sessions were designed to deepen their understanding of various business-related topics, provide and opportunity to interact with leaders, and teach the research skills necessary for successful networking.

The popularity of the program among College of Business students assures that we will always have an emerging groups of "Business Leaders of the Future."

Proctor & Gamble Provide Opportunity for Emerging Business Innovators

Proctor & Gamble is a $84 billion dollar, multinational corporation with operations in over 70 countries. With a vast reach in the consumer products market, P&G has a reputation for proving progressive opportunities to its over 121,000 employees. P&G represents an expansive array of opportunities. It is our responsibility assist our students in making the connection by demonstrating the value Coppin students offer.

A December meeting with Tawana Bhagwat, Associate Director of Global Cosmetics, has led to an opportunity for Coppin to send and interdisciplinary team of students to compete in P&G's first Cosmetic Case Competition to be held in April of 2015. The College of Business will take the lead in preparing students to compete with teams from other local universities such as Towson and University of Baltimore. We're confident that the genius of our students will be on full display as they make us all "Coppin Proud."

Accounting Club Explores NABA Chapter

A significant component
important part of student success is in our ability to establish relationships that will enhance their professional development. Such relationships extend beyond the classroom to corporate partners and professional associations that provide practical experience in the student's discipline. Because of the diversity of the  products and services offered by organizations, it's important that experiences be tailored to the student's discipline. The experiences that may be useful in the accounting field are often very different than experiences that may be useful in entertainment management. Therein lies the importance of organizations like the National Association of Black Accountants.

At the invitation of Dr. Loretta Baryeh and Professor Hyacinth Ezeka, representative from the Baltimore Chapter met with student to discuss the establishment of a NABA chapter at Coppin. Dr. Baryeh and Professor Ezeka are demonstrating the kind of student centered leadership that will go a long way to preparing our student for success.

MIS Meets GIS

One of the critical components of our success is to embrace emerging technologies and incorporate them in our curriculum in such a way that they expand opportunities for our students and allow us to meet the  evolving workforce demands of the marketplace. A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data. The business applications are enormous, particularly in the information, data driven economy. GIS business applications range from marketing, real estate, transportation, logistics, insurance, financial service, and more.

Professor James Thomas, adjunct professor in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, reached out to the College of Business to increase our awareness of GIS and potential opportunities within our existing Management Information Systems program. The interdisciplinary approach to technology that has clear multidisciplinary applications will help strengthen us all.

Curators of Hip Hop Come to Coppin to Talk Business

The Curators of Hip Hop (COHH) is a concept developed by the creative innovators of what has come to be known as an "online museum of auditory and visual stimulation." Jermaine Fletcher, Jimmie Thomas and A'sia Horne have extended the concept from Los Angeles to Baltimore. They are serious journalists who have filmed and released their feature film  "The Curators Volume 1 - A Story of Independence."  As of 2013/2014, the film has been recognized by The Pan African Festival, A3C Festival and several colleges across the U.S.

East coast curator, Jimmie Thomas paid a visit to Coppin State University at the invitation of Professor Surjeet Baidwan to address Entertainment Management

students about their mission and their process for completing it. To have a vision, develop a concept, capture it on film, and release it as a full length feature requires an understanding of the art and the business.

Mr. Thomas was able to share his insights, including the trials of the business. It was the kind of practical, real-world conversation that benefits our students who aspire to enter the entertainment industry. It enables them to strategically focus their preparation based on their exposure to those who have been there.

MGM National Harbor Recruits at Coppin

The hospitality/entertainment industry is exploding in Maryland. Over the past seven years, since the passing of the slots bill in the fall of 2008, we've seen the building of six casino entertainment complexes in a state that is 42nd in national square mileage ranking. Having six casino entertainment complexes within the state's relatively small square mileage is evidence of the intense interstate competition that stretches from Connecticut to the DMV for gaming revenue. The newest arrival is the MGM Resort International National Harbor facility. The 1.2 billion dollar entertainment center will feature amenities for everyone, including those who are partial to games of chance.

The growth of the casino entertainment industry represents a huge opportunity for students who graduate from the only four-year degree program with a concentration in casino gaming in the state. Coppin State University was ahead of all others in developing a program to feed the growing industry. It's not that MGM recruited exclusively at Coppin. They made visits to many institutions in the area. But having the only four-year program in the region makes the College of Business a potential prime recruiting partner. Our aim is to develop that which is mutually beneficial to our students, the University, and the regional economy.
