March/2014

Dear CIHS Community Members,

CIHS' first quarter of the year ends in the next few weeks, and Spring quarter will start April 7. Please note that registration week for Spring quarter begins March 24 and runs through March 28. For enrolled students, there is a per unit discount if you register during registration week.

In CIHS' March newsletter, Dr. Hope Umansky announces our Spring course schedule. This Spring quarter, we are offering a newly created course by Dr. Mali Burgess, Teachings on Non-Dual Awareness, and it is open to all programs. We are also offering a revised and updated curriculum on Sociocultural Interventions and Strategies, taught by Dr. Sharon Mijares. (Please see below for her article about her updated curriculum which has relevance for each graduate and BIS program). If you are interested in CIHS or have questions about any of our courses or programs, please visit our website (www.cihs.edu) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky ([email protected]) for any assistance.

Additionally, we are pleased to announce the release of CIHS summer conference video, and this well represents the theme and meaning of our annual Subtle Energy Conference.

Message from the Dean:

"All real education is the architecture of the soul." William Bennett

Happy Almost-Spring CIHS Community,

CIHS students know that their education is one of heartfelt practice and academic investigation that offers a unique contrast to traditional curriculum without sacrificing academic rigor. Attending CIHS, whether as a student or community member at events like our summer conference, provides a pathway to undertake a consciousness-based curriculum and paradigm in your professional, personal, and spiritual lives. We very seriously understand that CIHS students are the clinicians, psychologists, practitioners, educators, thought-leaders, scientists, and researchers in this generation, who have agreed to undertake a very specific role in integrating this new paradigm into practice. No course offering, textbook, course curriculum or summer conference speaker is taken lightly, and we sincerely want to welcome all like minds to experience what it is like to be amidst forward thinkers in an educational and professional setting. You can see this forward thought in action through our newly launched subtle energy conference video:

We hope you will post it to your Facebook page and share it with like-minded individuals and communities so we can continue to grow our dynamic community. If you have any questions about how one of CIHS' unique programs can help support your growth and career, I am happy to discuss it with you in person or via phone/email. We hope you will join us! I look forward to hearing from you: [email protected]

New Course Announcement for Spring Quarter:
Dr. Mijares'

"Sociocultural Influences

and Intervention Strategies"

by Sharon Mijares, Ph.D.

The study of social and cultural influences upon human nature and psychological behavior is pertinent to all fields of study.  We are all engaged in numerous interactive systems from biological fields to spiritual planes of existence. Our socially constructed world influences, and is influenced by our political, religious and social beliefs. We create the world we live in, and we can likewise re-create it.

The world your parents and grandparents lived in no longer exists. The current generation is moving rapidly into technological changes that impact our relationship with self and others. We can buy an airplane ticket to distant lands with just a few clicks. Cultures are no longer isolated from one another and increasing cultural migrations are changing our narratives, as the old ones no longer apply. The rise of Social Networks has forever changed our ways of communicating.

At the same time, illegal drug use has been rising, including an increase in heroin use regardless of its known dangers-not to mention the vast numbers of people living on prescription drugs.  There is a discontent with ordinary life along with a disconnection occurring with the rapid pace of life and information, encouraged by technological advances influencing rapid communications. For example, the new Google Fiber has speeds from 600 to 700Mbps.  Do people stop and take a breath?  How is this influencing relationship in social and cultural paradigms?

It is no wonder that increasing numbers of people are turning toward indigenous ways of living and being--reaching for ways to connect with nature. As humanity is reaching or the stars, it is always struggling to reconnect with the rich healing knowledge of nature.  Our need is to find and restore the long lost balance between heaven and earth.

  Workshop Description

The Vishuddhi chakra is said to be a chakra which enables us to achieve non-attachment. This chakra, however, cannot be awakened if we do not transcend ourselves to a higher dimension that is beyond the physical and astral dimension, where emotions and images mostly function. It is also considered as a gateway or barrier, as we transcend our being solely human and reach to become a higher, broader dimensional being.

Vishuddhi is derived from the word "shuddhi," which means to purify. It is considered the chakra of purification, where the purification of body, thought, emotion, and karma may take place.

In the physical body, the vishuddhi is located in the throat and thyroid gland, and it is related to the respiratory system, which includes the lungs, bronchi and nose. Additionally, in the oriental meridian theory, it relates mostly to the lung and large intestine.

Currently, in our modern society, we tend to be egoistic due to the influence of the astral dimension, where emotion and thoughts dominantly function. In order for us to be free from self-centered ego and to grow to a being which is able to harmonize with others, awakening of the vishuddhi chakra is necessary. Our purpose of living is to evolve spiritually and contribute ourselves to actualizing world peace and harmony.

We hope you will join us for CIHS' Annual yoga workshop, May 31 & June 1, 2014, with the focus on the vishuddhi chakra taught by Mr. Takeshima and Paul & Suzee Grilley.

Advanced Integrative Therapy is a dynamic new energy psychotherapy that provides individuals lasting relief from a range of intractable psychological disorders. Starting from the premise that all upsetting events are types of trauma, and that they are housed within the body, mind and spirit, Advanced Integrative Therapy quickly removes the aftereffects of such traumatic events.

Come to the 8th West Coast AIT Basics Training in beautiful Encinitas (San Diego), California. March is a beautiful time to get away from the cold, take a walk on the beach, or visit the meditation gardens at the Self Realization Center. Have your family enjoy the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Park and Legoland.

In the Basics class, you will learn how to access unconscious material through ideomotor cueing (muscle testing), and how to move energy through the body's major energy centers (chakras) to eliminate symptoms, their cause and after-effects.  By the end of 3 days, you will be able to treat originating traumas and resulting lifelong repetitive painful emotions and behaviors.  You will be able to convert negative core beliefs and desires into healthy beliefs, instill and develop positive qualities, and develop effective strategies for self-care.  At the end of three days, you will be able to:

  • Implement AIT into your practice immediately with ready-to-use, step-by-step protocols.
  • Heal old wounds with new tools.
  • Convert clients' self-sabotage into healthy beliefs and positive self-care.
  • Achieve faster healing at deeper levels.
  • Move your clients from surviving to thriving, quickly and effectively.
  • Re-awaken your dream of psychotherapy as a healing art.

Registration fee:                   $545.
