Dear CIHS Community Members,
I hope you enjoyed Halloween last week. Now, Thanksgiving and the holiday season are right around the corner. We just wanted to express our deepest gratitude to you all - students, community members, and faculty. Without your continued support, CIHS would not exist. We enter the holiday season grateful for your presence in our community.
We have some announcements and important information in this newsletter. First, as a series featured in our newsletter, Dr. Hideki Mori's, M.D. & CIHS graduate, third article (out of five) is presented. As I explained in the last couple of newsletters, Dr. Mori has been studying closely with Dr. Motoyama, and Dr. Mori obtained his doctorate degree from CIHS in Integral Health. Dr. Mori is well-versed in AMI (Apparatus of Meridian Identification), and he explains how Dr. Motoyama's theory reveals the mechanism of the mind and body correlation from his AMI expertise, as well as a practitioner of Dr. Motoyama's meridian exercises and meditations. Dr. Mori's article is fascinating, and in it, he knowledgeably describes the correlation between how mind and body contributes to our health.
If you missed the first and second articles in the series, please visit our newsletter archives and check September and October 2013 issue.
The next article is a message from our Dean, Dr. Hope Umansky. She announces our Winter course schedule. Yes, it is already time to plan for next year 2014! The concrete course schedule will be ready by the middle of November so please visit our website ( www.cihs.edu) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky ( hope_umansky@cihs.edu) for any assistance. She also announces a Save-the-Date for annual CIHS community holiday/winter gathering and the CIHS annual subtle energy science conference. All community members are welcome at these events, including prospective students. For the Holiday Gathering, we hope you will come, have dinner with us, and celebrate the New Year for you and CIHS.
Lastly, we announce our annual experiential workshop, "Advanced Integrative Therapy," which will be held at our campus on March 14, 15 and 16 with Drs. Mary Clark, Enid Singer, and Victoria Danzig, LCSW. This is an energy psychology modality that clears trauma through the chakras using language and applied kinesiology. It is an amazing experience for students, counselors, therapists, and social workers.
The Winter 2014 quarter starts January 6, and our registration week is December 16 through 20. You do not need to be a CIHS student to take a course. You can experience the course by auditing it. Should you decide to become a student after taking a class, it is easily converted to count toward your graduate degree. If you are interested in our courses or programs, please contact Dr. Hope Umansky (hope_umansky@cihs.edu) for any assistance.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!!
Sincerely,

How can we attain optimal health through our mind-set and physical practice?
By Hideki Mori, M.D., Ph.D.
What are the division of roles of the energy of
karana dimension, the energy of astral dimension, and the electromotive force between the carboxyl group of hyaluronic acid and the positive charge of sodium ion? First, the last element is the energy of a physical dimension, and I think that it has comparatively little change and gives fundamental electromotive force.
Dr. Motoyama describes as follows in this book ("Ryosin ga Kenko wo tukuru"). The karana soul works as a formative effect which forms the body, makes it work as an organic whole under fixed order, and maintain it over the period for 60 to 100 years. On the other hand, an astral soul follows disorder strongly, is mainly concerned with self-centered work such as feeling, conception, desire, etc., conditions a constitution, and becomes a cause which makes the constitutional illness of mind and body. So, karana energy is thought to adjust the balance of ki energy and to act so that the human body may be kept healthy. On the other hand, astral energy is thought to become a cause which changes the balance of ki energy of a related meridian system, according to feeling or conception, and to disturb the balance of ki energy and makes constitutional illness if it is going too far.
According to Dr. Motoyama's meridian theory, ki energy flows through the papillary layer and subpapillary layer of the dermis which are classified into loose connective tissue.Loose connective tissue is widely distributed over submucous tissue, the circumference of nerves, the circumference of blood vessels, and the circumference of glands, etc., rather than only in dermis. This is especially true concerning the organization between a capillary vessel and a cell which is made of loose connective tissue. Oxygen and nutritive substance are carried to the cell from the capillary vessel, and carbon dioxide and wastes are carried to the capillary vessel from the cell through loose connective tissue. Since ki energy flows through loose connective tissue, which is distributed to all the corners of a human body, it may be possible that ki energy is carried to a cell.
Within a cell, nutritive substances, such as carbohydrate, fat, and protein are metabolized if needed and generate energy in the form of an electron, which is passed to the electron transport chain of a mitochondria, where Phosphoric acid is combined with ADP to make a substance called ATP, using the energy of an electron and oxygen.
When energy is required in the living body, the energy released by decomposing ATP into ADP and phosphoric acid is used. There may be a possibility that ki energy carries energy to a cell through the loose connective tissue involving the whole body and passes an electron to the cell, and that electron is used for composition of ATP.

Dear CIHS Community,
As we move into the holiday season and begin planning for CIHS courses and events in 2014, I wanted to express my gratitude to Dr. Motoyama, CIHS, and the CIHS community for creating a literal and figurative space for exploring consciousness, subtle energy studies, and the mind, body, spirit paradigm in the healing arts, comparative religion and philosophy, integral sciences, and psychology. As a CIHS community member and student, I applaud you for taking on the challenge of being an intrinsic part of the new paradigm. Earning an academically rigorous graduate education on the cutting edge of consciousness and subtle energy studies will help you professionally, academically, and personally explore unique possibilities in fields of Integral Health, Comparative Religion and Philosophy from an Eastern Perspective, Clinical Psychology, and Integral Psychology.
From the vantage point of where I stand as Dean of CIHS, interviewing prospective students, and advising current students, there is a call-to-arms to engage in a creative education to help anchor in the mind/body/spirit shift in our culture and healthcare systems. Being willing to take on a commitment toward this change by earning a graduate degree so you can speak and work from a place of legitimacy and knowledge, reflects on our deepest desires as tenets ushering in the new age whose sole/soul purpose is to revolutionize the standard worldview toward the integration of science and spirituality. The California Institute for Human Science (CIHS), founded in 1992 by research scientist, author, and spiritual leader, Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, has an active mission to be a tenet in this new holistic paradigm of consciousness-based education. CIHS offers a heart-based education fully committed to the mind-body-spirit triad and holistic consciousness that caters to the Whole self, including the soul, which, according to Dr. Motoyama, and all of the great spiritual traditions, is the essence of being human.
It is clear that the cultural shift we are experiencing is at critical mass. This positive change is dependent on a partnership between scientists, practitioners, clinicians, researchers, and educators who are dedicated to the promise of a new consciousness-based reality that can only occur when the dominant culture is infused with an academically rigorous foundation integrating science and spirituality with the healing arts. It takes deep reflection and courage to be part of this new age and the call to action of which we are all apart. CIHS can partner with you to help you fulfill your purpose in helping facilitate the changes that honor the holistic paradigm.
CIHS offers opportunities for innovative Master's and PhD degrees in Integral Health (subtle energy studies/life physics), Comparative Religion and Philosophy (from a non-Western, non-dual perspective), Clinical Psychology (with California approved licensure track), and Integral Psychology, all on the cutting edge of consciousness-based creative and collaborative education. CIHS offers a Bachelor's completion program, too, that is especially helpful, for example, for the healer who never finished his/her traditional education but feels the call to do so now. This revolution in healthcare and the dominant culture's thoughts/actions depends upon a commitment toward integrating and anchoring these concepts in a grounded and intelligent way to facilitate the advancement of global consciousness on a personal, client-based, community, and worldwide level. That is the dream of Dr. Motoyama and the core vision of CIHS -- to integrate science and spirituality by offering an academically rigorous graduate degree to foster in this new age. Are you up for the challenge and what will be your part?
There are several opportunities in the coming months to become a part of the CIHS larger community and/or become a student. Please Save-the-Date for the following community events: The CIHS annual Holiday Gathering, open to all CIHS community members, including prospective students, is Friday, January 10, at 5:30 on campus. CIHS' annual subtle energy science conference (title to be announced) will be held Friday, July 18 through Sunday, July 20, 2014, on campus. This year we will be focusing on how the integration of science and spirituality is forever changing the field of healthcare and the healing arts.
Winter Quarter begins January 6, 2014. Winter Quarter course registration is December 16-20, 2013. The official course registration sheet will be distributed mid-November. The courses are the following:
