Dear CIHS Community Members,
CIHS' June newsletter has several articles detailing our exciting summer events. First, there is announcement from our Dean, Dr. Hope Umansky, about the Summer course schedule. Registration week is June 17 to 21. CIHS students must register during this week to receive the discounted rate per unit. After this week, tuition is at the regular rate.
We are also excited to introduce a new course taught by Dr. Sharon Mijares, being offered this Summer quarter. Her article details her new course, "Ecopsychology/Ecofeminism,"as well as its objectives and the nature of the subject. Dr. Mijares is a prolific author of about 10 books, and she is very well known in this field speaking all over the world. Dr. Mijares has been very important to the school's academic programs, and she has been teaching regularly with CIHS for seven years. She is also a licensed clinical psychologist. We are thrilled to offer this new course, and it should offer a new perspective on Ecopsychology/Ecofeminism. We are fortunate to have her as core faculty, and we hope you will take advantage of this new course, open to all programs.
The third announcement is about a workshop facilitated by CIHS alum and former administrator, Dr. Richard Jelusich, and his colleague, Miguel Angel Vergara Calleros, entitled "Return to the Sacredness of Maya Oneness."This workshop will be offered at CIHS in July and in Calgary, Canada in July. If you are interested in this workshop, please see the article below and check their flyer and website for more information.
Lastly, registration for our annual conference, "Uniting Science & Spirit: The Quest for a Sustainable Integrated Worldview" is still going on and space is limited so please register as soon as possible. The early registration rate expires June 30. This year, the preeminence of our speakers, who are all forefront pioneers in subtle energy studies/science, is unparalleled. Also, the abstracts of the conference speakers are posted on our Facebook page. Please check our page. http://www.facebook.com/cihs.edu
I hope you enjoy our newsletter. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at Hideki_Baba@cihs.edu

If you are a current student seeking academic advisement, please let me know if you would like to come and meet with me in person or set up a telephone appointment. You can also email me, and I am happy to get back to you that way, too. If you are a prospective student, I am happy to set up a time to meet with you and discuss whether our unique programs can support your growth toward your goals. Ecopsychology/Ecofeminism
The Psychology of Gender and Nature
| |
by Sharon G. Mijares, Ph.D.
This course is being offered in the Summer quarter for Integral Psychology, Integral Health, Comparative Religion and Philosophy students (Clinical Psychology program students as well might want to take this course as an elective). The quarter begins July 8, 2013.
Nature is a teacher! Ancient and modern Shamans live in a relationship with the natural world. In fact, ancient and indigenous peoples have been far more attuned to nature than are the modern inhabitants controlling much of what takes place on this planet. Indigenous peoples sensed subtle changes in the environment because of this attunement. They have been able to live in harmony with the elements and forms within nature. Indigenous people also recognized the dangers of ignoring our responsibilities for living in harmony with all of nature. There is a Cree prophesy saying that,
When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.
A healthy future is dependent upon a human reconnection with nature. Yet, despite this knowledge--for there is plenty of evidence supporting its importance--the majority of our thoughts, behaviors, technologies, and even meditations, continue to disconnect us from nature. The effects of this imbalance are around and within us.
The religious historian Geoffrey Parrinder wrote about a time when ancient Greek mythologies spoke about a splitting of heaven and earth. He noted how "the marriage of Sky and Earth secured fertility...[but] cosmologies tell of the forcing apart of Sky and Earth, who [were] regarded as united in sexual union..." (1971, pp. 147-155). Parrinder was speaking about the beginning of the human emphasis on rationalization and what would become a growing disregard for the power and beauty of what was around us in our natural environment. It also represented the beginning of a patriarchal ideology that separated gender-relegating the female to be subordinate to the male. Cognition became more important than our senses and feeling through the body. The masculine took a dominant stance over the feminine. We lost the connection with the natural world.
As we lost the capacity for walking in harmony with the earth-we misplaced much of our capacity for guidance through nature. Given the increasing numbers of dying species, diminishing forests and health problems, it is obvious that we need more positive ways of living-ways that contribute to and sustain life.
This course is also about discovering ways to first attune to and be guided by a connection with nature, and then to let that guidance lead us to find a healthy balance in our lives. It allows for engagement in positive political change and renewing ideas about what it means to be a citizen in this world. Ecofeminism emphasizes the necessity of engaging in green politics and gender equality in that it emphasizes the relationship of feminine and nature. In order to reconnect with the feminine, we also need to learn how to listen to our bodies and form a more sensitive relationship to the consciousness of Mother Earth.
Ecofeminism emphasizes choices that do not exploit and/or destroy life, and that contribute to sustainability. This also means returning to a felt relationship with the life cycles, similar to our ancient past while refining technological choices. This field unites environmentalists with feminism. The movement toward sustainable communities is a movement toward a more peaceful world. A healthy psychology that includes the body, nature and a sustainable environment are equally emphasized in order to protect and recreate a healthy world for all life.
Integral Psychology, Integral Health, Comparative Religion and Philosophy along with Clinical Psychology students are invited to participate in this new course.

Step Into The Light
"Return to the Sacredness of Maya Oneness"
|
|
We are being called - the time is now.
with Miguel Angel Vergara Calleros & Dr. Richard Jelusich
at CIHS
July 11th - 14th, 2013
We find ourselves in an extremely imbalanced world - a world we created unconsciously. This is the point in time the Mayan Calendars predicted. Upon completing a huge cycle of evolution we are now standing together at a precipice. Because we are connected in oneness, we all affect and are being affected by the energies of our universe. It is the time of the Sacred Feminine and the time to balance with the Sacred Masculine.
Now is the time to confront our destiny and accept that we are participants in creating the world we live in. As co-creators our thoughts and actions are deciding what the future will be.
To be conscious is to be present at the quality of the moment. The purpose of this Workshop is the activation of our consciousness to bring forth a world community of balance, beauty, light, love, and harmony. Working with the Ancient Wisdom of the Maya, Miguel Angel Vergara will help us raise our consciousness through teachings, ceremonies, meditations, and specific practices, including how to use the energies of the Tzolkin and Haab Calendars.
The Mayan Calendars and Prophecies have important messages and information for us as we enter the Golden Age and pass through this time of great transformation. Join us for this special event!
For more information, please visit Dr. Jelusich's Site from here or view the flyer (about instructors, schedule, fees and registration).
