Each quarter, we are thrilled to welcome new scholars, researchers, practitioners, clinicians, and life long learners to our vibrant and active student community. This quarter is no exception. We are happy to welcome seven new students who come to us with stellar academic backgrounds and a thirst for an unconventional education grounded in academic rigor. As we prepare for Spring quarter, which begins 4/1, please welcome these new students into your classes.

If you are interested in joining a forward thinking group of graduate students seeking knowledge and training grounded in academic rigor, CIHS welcomes you to be a part of our dynamic community. We are confident that earning a graduate degree at CIHS will support your pursuit of an innovative career in the healing arts, in fields such as Integral Health, Psychology (including licensure track psychology & Integral psychology tracks), and Comparative Religion and Philosophy from a consciousness-based perspective (Bachelor completion program, too). I am happy to schedule a time to meet with you in person or have a phone appointment to discuss our unique programs with you.

We welcome all like-minds to come and experience our community, whether as a student or community member. In a world that still does not inclusively welcome forward thinkers, being amidst CIHS' pioneering student body, all of whom are dedicated to pushing the integration of science and spirit and the exploration of consciousness in integral health, religion, and psychology, is invigorating. Once they begin classes, our new students often state that they feel like they came home. We applaud our current and new students for being up to the challenge of exploring unconventional academic and professional frontiers. I hope you will join us on the journey.

Sincerely,

A Psychology of Nature
by Roger Cavnaugh, Ph.D.

Dr. Cavnaugh's Perspective on his New Spring Course

Not so long ago I took a small group to Mount Cuchama, the "Sacred High Place" of the Kumeyaay People. Stopping at an ancient shamanic site near the mountain, we were approached by three shamans, the Deer Shaman, The Buffalo Shaman, and the Eagle Shaman. The shamans said they would like to share with us the reasons they came to be on the Earth. The Deer shaman said she came to Earth to see herself reflected in the wonderful variety and magnificence of Nature. The Buffalo Shaman said he came to Earth to explore and discover new versions of himself in all that Nature is, and the Eagle Shaman said he came to this planet to see it all and create what he felt would bring more joy to his Earth experience.

The story of the three shamans reminds us of what we often feel in the presence of Nature: that we are part of it all; and as Nature we want to be fully alive, free to exercise our creative abilities and potentials, and find fulfillment in purposeful and harmonious relationships with the sacredness of Life.   Each of us who come to CIHS has found a way to live more consciously and each of us has a sense of self as a dynamic intersection of spirit and matter.   An integral psychology of Nature stands on the foundation of our desire to know and be all of it, including our vibrant animality as well as our transcendent spirituality. None of this is possible without the sheer desire to live the truth that we are deeply connected to all Life and at One with Nature. The more we open to our inner life and explore the true essence of our psyche, the more we realize that all that we are is Life written large in the archetypes of Nature.   From our inner senses we can know the world of plants and animals, rivers and forests, seas, stars, and the realms stretching beyond them and within them as kin, our ever original family of Life.

This next term, in the Psychology of Nature, course we open the inner senses as we read, experiment, study, investigate, discover and walk the Earth in ways that allow us to experience ourselves as the magnificence of the mountains, the vastness of the seas, and the create possibilities of Nature. We will learn a phenomenological method of investigating Nature as well as open up to direct relationship with Nature as Consciousness. We will explore some of the local ancient spiritual sites where Earth mysteries abound; dip into the shamanic magic of journeys to

Nature's spiritual dimensions; meet some of the mythical consciounesses of Nature on our world and beyond; study examples of spiritual traditions, religions, civilizations, cultures, and communities that have lived and do live in harmony with the earth; and bring to light several neglected and little known techniques of working with Nature for healing and personal development.

The class is a hybrid: there will be on campus meetings, online teaching, and a number of field trips. Those who do not live within an hour or so of CIHS can participate online through a series of especially designed exercises and some exploration of their local ecology. Whatever program you are in, you are invited to join us this Spring term for A Psychology of Nature, and a more inspiring, perceptive, and grand vision of yourself as Nature.

Advanced Integrative Therapy
By Dr. Mary Clark

Advanced Integrative Therapy is a dynamic new energy psychotherapy and healing modality that provides individuals lasting relief from a range of intractable psychological disorders. Starting from the premise that all upsetting events are types of trauma, and that they are housed within the body, mind and spirit, Advanced Integrative Therapy quickly removes the aftereffects of such traumatic events.

** This weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) class will be held on the CIHS campus March 15-17, 2013. It fulfills 2 units of the spiritual education requirement. The class is also open to non-students and community members involved in the healing arts and practice. For information or to register, please call the California Institute for Human Science, 760-634-1771 x101 or email Tamiko Voros at admin@cihs.edu

In the Basics class, you will learn how to access unconscious material through ideomotor cueing (muscle testing), and how to move energy through the body's major energy centers (chakras) to eliminate symptoms, their cause and after-effects.  By the end of 3 days, you will be able to treat originating traumas and resulting lifelong repetitive painful emotions and behaviors.  You will be able to convert negative core beliefs and desires into healthy beliefs, instill and develop positive qualities, and develop effective strategies for self-care.

  • Implement AIT into your practice immediately with ready-to-use, step-by-step protocols.
  • Heal old wounds with new tools.
  • Convert clients' self-sabotage into healthy beliefs and positive self-care.
  • Achieve faster healing at deeper levels.
  • Move your clients from surviving to thriving, quickly and effectively.
  • Re-awaken your dream of psychotherapy as a healing art and discover a new modality for treating trauma gently and effectively with language, the chakras, and energy systems, including muscle testing.
