February/2013

Dear CIHS Community Members,

Unbelievably, one month has already passed since we celebrated the New Year. In the second newsletter of 2013, we have an article from Dr. Hope Umansky with a couple of on campus community announcements. Dr. Hope Umansky writes about our successful Open House last Friday, February 1, as well as introduces the Spring quarter course schedule. We will be formally announcing the course schedule for the spring quarter in our upcoming March newsletter. We have interesting and timely courses planned, so please stay in touch with us to ensure you receive the most updated information about CIHS' academic and research activities. If you are interested in CIHS or have questions about any of our programs, please visit our website (www.cihs.edu) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky (hope_umansky@cihs.edu ) for any assistance. If you missed our open house last week and would like to visit our campus and discuss our exciting and unique graduate programs and research opportunities in person, we will be happy to schedule a time. We welcome all like-minded inquires for graduate school, research, and/or workshop opportunities.

Have a wonderful February.

Sincerely,

Hideki Baba, Ph.D.

Message from the Dean:

Dear CIHS Community,

We are only as strong as our community. This concept has been at the forefront of my mind as we hosted this year's Open House held on campus, February 1. CIHS hosted approximately 45 people who make up the diverse CIHS community: current students, alumni, faculty, administration, prospective students, and people who participate in CIHS workshops, lectures, and conferences. As the administration manages CIHS operations, including events and academics, it is clear how much we depend on you to help foster the thriving and active learning community that makes up CIHS. Your involvement in the community, whether through classes or events, keeps CIHS dynamic and growing. Recently, we have had a record number of prospective students who enroll in CIHS. This year, it became clear to us that are now in the position of being too big to do en masse introductions. Now that our community is too large for this, we will have to do it in smaller groups to give people time to get to know one another. This is an unexpected luxury problem! We are grateful for all the students who you direct our way. They are all looking for an intellectual and spiritual home where they can explore science, subtle energy, spirituality, psychology, and religion from an alternative consciousness-based perspective. We are honored to hold this space that is home for so many of you, and we are grateful for all those whom you direct toward this path.

There are several ways to become connected to the CIHS on campus community in the next few months, whether you are a student or you are just interested in attending a workshop. In March, Victoria Danzig, LCSW, and Dr. Mary Clark will be offering Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) on campus March 15-17. This dynamic experiential workshop informs and trains the clinician or healer to work with trauma, muscle testing, and the chakras. It is a transformative modality. Last year, I was fortunate enough to take the class and it opened up avenues of the healing arts I was yet unaware. Victoria is providing an informative presentation on the technique (please see flyer below). If this modality sparks your interest, I highly encourage you to attend. It can transform your practice and understanding, and there is deep healing that occurs over the weekend.

In April, CIHS' annual Yoga workshop with Paul and Suzee Grilley and Mr. Takeshima will be on campus April 13-14. This year, the focus will be on awakening the anahata chakra. People can attend the whole workshop or parts of it, such as the meditation. There are also individual sessions available with Mr. Takeshima. This workshop will facilitate a profound depending in your practice. Registration information for this workshop is below.

Save-the-Date for CIHS' Annual Subtle Energy Conference, July 19-21. This event usually hosts between 70-80 scholars, researchers, scientists, and clinicians from all over the country who are pioneers in this field. It is on campus, and it is a wonderful community event to immerse yourself in the field of innovative active learning. This year, we are proud to announce that Dr. Bill Tiller, Dr. Claude Swanson, and Dr. Beverly Rubik will return with new presentations, and Dr. Gary Schwartz will be providing a key note presentation, just to name a few of the preeminent speakers presenting. It will be a decidedly narrower niche of research about the integration science and spirituality and innovations in the field that are a result of this work.

Lastly, CIHS' spring course schedule will be announced in March. The Spring quarter begins April 1 and runs through June 7. CIHS' unique graduate programs are for those students seeking an out-of-the-box education to explore these fields in an environment of academic rigor. If you are interested in seeing how CIHS' innovative graduate programs (BA completion, too) can support you on your professional, academic, and personal goals, please contact me to set up a time to speak on the phone or come in for an appointment. There is still time to apply if you are interested in beginning in the Spring. CIHS offers rolling admissions. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about CIHS' programs. Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu or 760-634-1771 x114.

I hope to see you on campus at these events. Happy February!

Sincerely,

Hope Umansky, PhD

Advanced Integrative Therapy
By Dr. Mary Clark

Advanced Integrative Therapy is a dynamic new energy psychotherapy and healing modality that provides individuals lasting relief from a range of intractable psychological disorders. Starting from the premise that all upsetting events are types of trauma, and that they are housed within the body, mind and spirit, Advanced Integrative Therapy quickly removes the aftereffects of such traumatic events.

** This weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) class will be held on the CIHS campus March 15-17, 2013. It fulfills 2 units of the spiritual education requirement. The class is also open to non-students and community members involved in the healing arts and practice. For information or to register, please call the California Institute for Human Science, 760-634-1771 x101 or email Tamiko Voros at admin@cihs.edu

In the Basics class, you will learn how to access unconscious material through ideomotor cueing (muscle testing), and how to move energy through the body's major energy centers (chakras) to eliminate symptoms, their cause and after-effects.  By the end of 3 days, you will be able to treat originating traumas and resulting lifelong repetitive painful emotions and behaviors.  You will be able to convert negative core beliefs and desires into healthy beliefs, instill and develop positive qualities, and develop effective strategies for self-care.

  • Implement AIT into your practice immediately with ready-to-use, step-by-step protocols.
  • Heal old wounds with new tools.
  • Convert clients' self-sabotage into healthy beliefs and positive self-care.
  • Achieve faster healing at deeper levels.
  • Move your clients from surviving to thriving, quickly and effectively.
  • Re-awaken your dream of psychotherapy as a healing art and discover a new modality for treating trauma gently and effectively with language, the chakras, and energy systems, including muscle testing.
