January/2013

Dear CIHS Community Members,

Happy New Year. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and New Year.

The first issue of 2013 has three main articles and 3 event announcements. The first article is from Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, the Founder and President of CIHS. Dr. Motoyama sends his greetings and community New Year's message. The second article is from Dr. Hope Umansky, Dean of Academic Affiars, regarding our open house on Friday, February 1, 5:30. Lastly, is a reflection from a CIHS graduate student about her experience at CIHS. Last is an article from CIHS doctorate student, Catherine Cardinal. With a doctorate, a thriving practice, and a book career, Catherine Cardinal discusses why she enrolled in CIHS for another doctorate.

Please note the following important community events: First is the yoga workshop with Takeshima, Paul and Suzee Grilley on April 13 &14; CIHS' Annual Open House on Friday, February 1 (please see details below); and the annual offering of Dr. Mary Clark's and Victoria Danzig's, LCSW, Advanced Integrative Therapy Course on campus March 15, 16, and 17. For more information about any of these events or workshops, please see our website (www.cihs.edu).

We have just begun CIHS' Winter quarter. Spring quarter begins April 1. CIHS offers unique courses so please contact our program director, Dr. Hope Umansky, if you have any questions or are interested in enrolling in CIHS (hope_umansky@cihs.edu).

We hope you can join us in building a strong community as we grow together in 2013.

Sincerely,

Message from the Dean:

Dear CIHS Community,

Happy New Year CIHS Community! As we closed 2012 and enter 2013, it is clear we are entering a new age of consciousness. Dr. Motoyama's vision of a global religion where human beings realize that the essence of being human is the soul, and that we exist with one another and nature as one, is becoming a reality for the majority, rather than the minority. Likewise, twenty years after the inception of CIHS as a graduate school that integrates science and consciousness in the hopes of transforming the field of integral science, psychology, and the healing arts, our curriculum is no longer considered alternative but, rather, is part of the mainstream dialogue. It is an exciting time for those of us who are in the consciousness and holistic community. We see the tides change when for years it seemed as though we were working against the grain. As 2013 begins, we see our iconoclastic visions becoming innovative and on the cutting edge of these fields. As we ride the wave of acceptance that 2013 brings, we are dedicated to making the school's curriculum and community stronger than ever.

Each week, I have the privilege of sitting across from prospective students, all of whom have stellar academic and/or professional backgrounds. They come to CIHS with the hope of integrating what was "underground" or a personal passion with academic rigor and study. Their wish is always the same: to be able to integrate a consciousness based practice with a foundation of academic excellence and rigor. It is a movement to affirm their personal beliefs and passion with a career to help people and society become more whole, more like Dr. Motoyama's vision of a global religion. Because the dialogue has changed and consciousness-based holistic concepts and subtle energy studies have become a necessary part of being well and an integrated, whole human being, our vision is that CIHS emerges as a pioneering think-tank of scholars, practitioners, researchers, and clinicians who are stewards of this innovative thinking and methodology. In this new age, CIHS's curriculum will no longer be considered alternative but a necessary and revolutionary part of a graduate education in subtle energy studies, research, comparative religion and philosophy, psychology, and the healing arts.

With this in mind, we invite you to come and see how CIHS can support you in your academic, professional, and personal growth. Our annual Open House/Community Gathering is Friday, February 1, from 5:30-7:30 (specific details are below). It is a great opportunity to meet faculty, current students, alumni, administrators, and other people who make up our exceptional community. You can experience what it feels like to be amidst like-minds all dedicated to the same goal. I am always happy to make time to meet with prospective students to see how CIHS' exceptional curriculum and unique program of study can help you develop into the person, scholar, clinician, and/or practitioner that you want to be. If you would like to set up a time to meet with me, I can be reached at Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu

CIHS always welcomes all like-minded individuals to come to our community event. We hope to see you there. Please RSVP to Tamiko at admin@cihs.edu

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Hope Umansky, PhD

Reflections from Catherine Cardinal, Ph.D.

It was after a lengthy and thorough search that I chose to attend CIHS and pursue another advanced degree. My intention was to expand my knowledge of the subtle energy systems existing between mind and body and apply them to my established skill-set. I have been working with clients for over twenty-five years as a Coach, Regression Therapist and Intuitive Counselor, and felt desirous to tap into the wealth of new and exciting cutting-edge information emerging from the energy psychology and mind/body field. CIHS is the only California approved school I found that offers this type of integrated approach.

Upon reading the Mission and Principles, the two statements most influencing my decision were: 1) To promote a Society Which Enhances the Integration of Science and Religion and To Elucidate the Mechanism of the Correlation Between Mind and Body, and to Actualize Mental Control over Body and Matter with a Resulting Better Life. This concept has been the underpinning of my work with clients, and CIHS presented an excellent opportunity to study with like-minded, kindred faculty and students.

For the first quarter, I took Dr. Dexter's Energy Psychology. Dr. Dexter presented a comprehensive course, including practical exercises we could apply to others and ourselves. By the end of the quarter, I had a working knowledge and understanding of multiple energy modalities including TAT, AIT, TFT, HBLU, EFT, and NLP. I have adapted two of the techniques into my work producing great success with my clients. Both Dr. Dexter and the other students provided an enriching learning experience on many levels as CIHS appears to attract practitioners and students that are stellar in their fields.

I look forward to my next quarter and to my entire CIHS experience! I have two books in print and am looking forward to a writing a third as my dissertation project.

Advanced Integrative Therapy
By Dr. Mary Clark

Advanced Integrative Therapy is a dynamic new energy psychotherapy and healing modality that provides individuals lasting relief from a range of intractable psychological disorders. Starting from the premise that all upsetting events are types of trauma, and that they are housed within the body, mind and spirit, Advanced Integrative Therapy quickly removes the aftereffects of such traumatic events.

** This weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) class will be held on the CIHS campus March 15-17, 2013. It fulfills 2 units of the spiritual education requirement. The class is also open to non-students and community members involved in the healing arts and practice. For information or to register, please call the California Institute for Human Science, 760-634-1771 x101 or email Tamiko Voros at admin@cihs.edu

In the Basics class, you will learn how to access unconscious material through ideomotor cueing (muscle testing), and how to move energy through the body's major energy centers (chakras) to eliminate symptoms, their cause and after-effects.  By the end of 3 days, you will be able to treat originating traumas and resulting lifelong repetitive painful emotions and behaviors.  You will be able to convert negative core beliefs and desires into healthy beliefs, instill and develop positive qualities, and develop effective strategies for self-care.

  • Implement AIT into your practice immediately with ready-to-use, step-by-step protocols.
  • Heal old wounds with new tools.
  • Convert clients' self-sabotage into healthy beliefs and positive self-care.
  • Achieve faster healing at deeper levels.
  • Move your clients from surviving to thriving, quickly and effectively.
  • Re-awaken your dream of psychotherapy as a healing art and discover a new modality for treating trauma gently and effectively with language, the chakras, and energy systems, including muscle testing.
