Happening this week

The focus of the Senate and the Assembly will be on analyzing the Governor's May Revise released last week.   Click here to read how the budget process is to work.  According to the general budget calendar budget subcommittees are to complete their work by the end of May and submit a subcommittee report of their recommendations and/or actions to the respective full committee of each house.  Although it has not happened in recent years, reports from each house are generally vetted through a joint Assembly and Senate Conference Committee.

Assemblymember Shirley Weber pursues legislation to restore child care and early education programs

This measure, Assembly Concurrent Resolution 45 (ACR 45) would urge the California State Legislature, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Governor to restore budget funding to early care and education programs and to support efforts to fund and implement the Quality Rating and Improvement System and other programs that support early care and education.

According to a press release from Weber's office, ACR 45 shines light on the importance of early child care and preschool education as well as the positive impact they have in the lives of our children.   The resolution also emphasizes the importance of educating parents about the value of early child care and education in the early years of a child. Studies show that 80 percent of a child's brain development occurs by age three and 90 percent of brain development occurs by age five.
