July 2013 E-Newsletter

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God.
Hebrews12:15 (NIV)

Greetings!

I'd say, "Summer Greetings" or "Happy 4th of July!" -- but those remarks would not pertain to many of our readers. So I'll just say, "Hi. I hope you are doing well! And did you know that Rockbridge Seminary just received its full accreditation? Yea God -- You've gifted seminarians and RS leadership beyond measure!"

In this issue, you'll find the story of a real coaching role model, Dr. Phyllis Alderman. In addition, may the Life Purpose Coach® Challenge article truly make you stop and think about whether you extend and receive grace. And don't miss the unveiling of six strong endorsements for the upcoming Recovery Coaching book that is pre-selling beyond our wildest expectations!

And of great importance: If you intend to become a Recovery Coach in order to meet the needs of our book readers, here's the course information to participate:

OFFICIAL REGISTRATION FOR "RECOVERY COACH" COURSE:

Now open on a first-come, first-serve basis until the class is full

Thank you to those of you who've already asked to be considered as a Recovery Coach and to whom we've initially replied. You've made our prep work easier in many ways! Look for our next email to you shortly with more details.

Others are asking, "What is a Recovery Coach?" Such a coach specializes in helping clients recover from addictions and related challenges that anchor their souls and prevent them from moving forward with life purpose, i.e., due to issues involving anger/rage, depression, alcohol or other substances, gambling, sex, pornography, abuse, shopping, eating disorders, relationship problems, anxiety, stress, enabling, etc.

However, to be clear, a Recovery Coach is not an Intervention Coach (that niche or specialty area is offered as one of our advanced recovery classes). Nor is he/she a Sober Companion who monitors the daily life of an addict or a Sponsor who is a go-to volunteer, a recovering addict with a strong desire to give back to the recovery community by helping others. More specifically, our Recovery Coaches help clients answer the age-old question: "What on earth am I here for?" by using
The Twelve Steps for Believers©: Where Recovery and Purpose Intersect; a personal copyright granted to Life Purpose Coaching Centers International® by Alcoholics Anonymous®--for use with Christians. (You can see God's hand in that!)

Some have asked, "What can you tell me about the Recovery Coach class?"

The Recovery Coach course meets online for three sessions of three hours each week, plus it has homework and practicum assignments. It covers the nature of addiction, specific skills related to recovery, as well as the administrative tasks and regulatory compliance requirements associated with coaching clients in recovery. This LPCCI course has been board-approved by the Center for Credentialing & Education and also by the International Association of Continuing Education Training. It awards 1.0 CE Unit, which may or may not be needed by a student to meet an employment requirement. Upon completion of the course, "-R" (annotated on the site Map for Recovery Coach) will be added to your LPCCI Map Card and Landing Page, so you can begin accepting clients and referrals.

The tele-course dates for this LPCCI online school offering will be three evenings, tentatively scheduled for September 26, October 3, and October 10 from 5-8pm Pacific Time (8-11pm Eastern). We are stalling a tad to be able to include those still hoping to finish their pre-requisites! The cost is $500.00.

Pre-requisites for taking this Recovery Coach course are LPCCI's Course #101+201+301 or the LPCCI Professional Master Life Coaching course. (If you need to work on your prerequisites, please let us know right away! You still have time to meet the very important, foundational, non-negotiable requirements this summer.)

Join us on a Tele-Conference Call on Monday, July 29, 5:30-6:30pm Pacific Time, to introduce the course to you and to get your questions answered. A few days prior, call-in instructions will be sent to all those who've completed their prerequisites, emailed their registration form, and paid their tuition-or as space allows, may still be on the "Interest List."

Email LPCCI today (at the address in the signature block) if you already know you want to participate in this class, so we can send you a Registration Form to hold your spot formally. Or email us to be on the "Interest List."

Honoring Dr.  Phyllis Alderman, DMin, CLPC
Life Purpose Coach® Instructor

Wearing many hats is not new to Phyllis. Her coaching journey began while she was Director of Women's Ministry at a large Florida church and also while serving as Founder/Director of Shepherd's Village, a separate single-mother residential ministry

While reading Dr. Katie Brazelton's Pathway to Purpose for Women in 2005, a compelling question asked if the reader would consider being part of her dream to open multiple "life purpose coaching centers." And Phyllis said, "Yes!"
Training began at the 2006 coaching conference in Laguna Beach (above) with the highlight of becoming an official LPCCI in 2007 in Kauai (below). Such great memories!

In 2007 Phyllis launched a private practice coaching center, Changepoints For Living, with an emphasis on helping women face today's challenges and life decisions. As Shepherd's Village grew, the coaching center relocated to the Shepherd's Village site.

Recently, an exciting, thrifty boutique, Shabby2Chic, opened to help support scholarships and offer business skill training for the mothers.

In 2011, Shepherd's Village partnered with New Life Solutions, a vibrant ministry located in Pinellas County, Florida, including The Pregnancy Center (3 sites); Breath of Life Women's Health and Birth Center; More2Life, an abstinence youth education program; and Passages, a post-abortion recovery ministry, thus launching an expanded path of women's services for both ministries.

Phyllis continues to integrate life purpose coaching skills into multiple ministries and to train new Life Purpose Coach® students. She has developed a study, Successful Strategies For Coaching Single Parents, to be featured in the "Poster Presentation Exhibit" at the 2013 American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference, selected by the Life Coaching, Mediation, and Consulting Track based on Dr. B's highest recommendation for Dr. Alderman's merit.

365 Daily Meditations toward Discovering Your True Purpose

Extend and Receive Grace

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God.
HEBREWS 12:15 (NIV)

An aerial view of any community always causes me to pray for those people who are hurt- ing in the homes below. God gives me this sense that I can see widows sobbing in their darkened bedrooms, parents at their wits' end with rebellious teens, children terrified by abuse, and other lonely souls contemplating suicide. But no more Debbie Downer examples; you get the point; you know what goes on in households. Even if nothing traumatic is happening, people still feel body-slammed by the daily stress of relentless pressures. Compound that with recovery issues, and it spells Dysfunction with a capital D.

Don't be tempted to look down at the houses anymore; look upward instead! Cast your eyes on heaven and pray with me for God's free, generous gift of grace to fall on all who are distressed. Ask him to extend his unmerited love, his benevolent favor, to those in need-including you and me, too, please! Pray by name for individuals to whom you need to offer undeserved grace, and also for those who've been withholding grace from you. As you pray the following Scriptures, tell God you want to learn to extend and receive grace more graciously:

Even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace.
GALATIANS 1:15

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God.    EPHESIANS 2:8

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.    2 PETER 1:2

I know that giving and accepting grace isn't easy, but we can let these verses remind us that it's only by God's grace we've been saved-and that more of his favor is always available.

SOUL SEARCH

How has grace revealed to you the doting nature of your heavenly Father? How might your lifelong ministry involve giving others the gift of grace?

God of grace, I join all believers in households, as we pray, "Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive [your] mercy, and we will find grace

to help us when we need it most" (8 Hebrews 4:16).
