March 2013 E-Newsletter

Praise the Lord, all his works

everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

(Psalm 103:22 NIV)

Greetings!

Each month I seem to get more and more excited about what God is doing at Life Purpose Coaching Centers International® (LPCCI), allowing us to continue to help people discover and fulfill His plan for their lives!

Today, I can hardly contain my joy. Here's what you'll find in this E-Newsletter, surrounded by photos of our coaches, clients, and church audiences surrendering their lives to the King of kings. I hope this issue will lead you to pray for your own (and for my) deepening commitment to surrender to our Lord of lords:

  1. An inspiring article by Dr. Lendell Nolan, our Sr. VP, Development of Church Coaching Centers.
  2. An invitation to chat with our leadership on Friday, March 8th for 1½ hours.
  3. An invitation to go to Jamaica with Dr. Hopelyn Brown for a LPCCI Conference.
  4. An invitation to sign up for the International Christian Coaching Association (ICCA) for many reasons, but also to catch my upcoming article in Christian Coaching Today magazine about building a coaching practice for women/moms.
  5. A look at ICCA's feature of my book, Character Makeover, as a great coaching tool.

In addition to all that, I'd like to extend an invitation for us to meet face-to-face in Tennessee at the September 11-14, 2013 World Conference of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), where LPCCI leadership has been asked once again (for the fourth time) to speak on new vo coaching topics!

  bob surrender

Imagine hearing General Patton declare, "We herd sheep, we drive cattle, we lead people. Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way."* His words epitomize a dominant model of leadership, which car companies, presidential candidates, and other commanding officers have enjoyed repeating.

Now try to envision Jesus making that statement! What about the apostle Paul? The words just don't resonate as well, do they? Change one word and try it again: Lead, follow, and get out of the way. Now we're getting somewhere.

We're reminded immediately of how Jesus led the disciples, followed the Father, and got out of the way (literally, He ascended into heaven), so the Holy Spirit would come to guide us:

I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me (John 17:6-8).

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment (John 16:7-8).

We also remember the servant leadership of Paul as he led Christians, followed Christ, and got out of the way of the Holy Spirit:

I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church 1 Corinthians 4:14-17).

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).

And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:1-5).

So how are you doing at leading, following, and getting out of the way? Do you see these conflicting with one another or do they work together in harmony for you? Are you leading others down the right path? Are you following in the footsteps of Jesus? Is the Holy Spirit showing up and showing off in your life?

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him (2 Chronicles 16:9a).

Have you surrendered your life?

Sean surrender ruin surrender

In 2013, as I've turned more of my attention toward helping churches establish Life Purpose Coaching Centers, God has reminded me of the importance of leading in alignment with His guidance and depending upon His Holy Spirit's power. Before we can ever take the lead in a church-based coaching center, we must reignite our passion to be devoted followers of Jesus. Through consistent prayer and meditation on God's Word, our dreams and desires become aligned with God's delight.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart

(Psalm 37:4).

Once our "followship" is established, our leadership will be effective. And lead we must, when we're called to launch a Life Purpose Coaching Center in a church! If you've caught the vision of establishing a center, you must first cast the vision to your pastoral team, remembering that those dedicated leaders are already over-committed and are not looking for more to do. Then you must be willing to pour yourself into the task of turning your godly vision into reality, all the while following the leadership of your senior pastor. And don't think you can do this alone; you'll need to lead a team of people who are skilled in design and decoration, media and marketing, finances and funding--as well as those whom God has called to be trained as coaches and instructors. You'll need many surrendered souls to help you!

men surrender retreat one

retreat 2 Finally, you must be willing to get out of the Holy Spirit's way! We must never forget to whom the church belongs. No one is more committed to seeing people find and fulfill God's purpose for their lives than God Himself. No one is more concerned with the growth and development of the bride of Christ than Jesus. And no one is more adept at empowering church leaders to establish a place, a coaching center, which can save broken marriages, encourage health and wellness, grow character, reduce personal debt, invite forgiveness, create ministries, and help people understand their unique purpose--than the Holy Spirit, if we will just get out of the way.

Regardless of what General Patton, Lee Iacocca (of Chrysler fame), and countless others have said about leadership, if you're God's chosen instrument for establishing a Life Purpose Coaching Center in your local church (or, perhaps, your denomination or seminary/Christian college), you must "lead, follow, and get out of the way."

You are cordially invited to a Teleconference

on Friday, March 8, 10:00-11:30am (MST)

Invitation from Lendell Nolan: God is moving in a wonderful way to launch church-based, Life Purpose Coaching Centers worldwide. Just in the past few months, God has led us into dialogue with church leaders in Indonesia, Great Britain, Canada, Florida, California, New York, and Texas.

This all began years ago when God gave Dr. Katie Brazelton a vision for launching church-based coaching centers worldwide. Through divine providence, God allowed our paths to cross. While serving as the Pastor of Ministry at Grace Community Church in Roswell, NM, I began dreaming about moving our members beyond their "SHAPE for ministry" to fully embrace their unique purpose in life (at church, home, work, community, etc.). Through the training and inspiration of Dr. Brazelton, we went to work at Grace and developed one of the first, church-based, Life Purpose Coaching Centers (www.LifePurposeCoachingRoswell.com).

Grace Community Church's Motto:

Helping People Find and Fulfill God's Purpose for Their Lives

Last October, Grace Community Church hosted a Worldwide Coaching Conference for LPCCI, and God sent us Life Purpose Coach® applicants and alumni from China, South Africa, France, and across the United States. During this week-long conference, God began to expand my vision for Life Purpose Coaching, allowing me to see the potential global impact that Life Purpose Coach® professionals could have upon the Body of Christ through church-based centers.

My life since then has been turned UPSIDE DOWN! Katie, our LPCCI President Dr./Rev. Jeff Jernigan, and I began discussing ways that I could partner with LPCCI to help churches internationally. As a result of these discussions, I accepted the challenge of serving as the Senior VP in charge of the Development of Church Coaching Centers.

At the same time, my senior pastor, Rick Hale, approached me with a new challenge. He asked me to transition from serving as the Pastor of Ministry to become the first Executive Pastor of Grace Community Church. (Here is where it gets crazy.) As part of this new role at Grace, I have been commissioned to continue serving as "the Director of the Grace Life Purpose Coaching Center and to work with Life Purpose Coaching Centers International® to develop coaching centers nationally and internationally." (This is actually written in my new job description at Grace!) I praise God for the opportunity to serve alongside such humble and kingdom-minded leaders as Rick, Katie, and Jeff.

Now to the point of this note! These transitions are all hitting at the same time. Although my work with LPCCI has already begun, my new role at Grace does not officially start until June 1, 2013. During the next few months, I will be balancing the demands of transitioning out of my current role, finding and training my replacement (recommendations are welcome), moving my office, and learning a new role. In order to balance all of these pressing demands, I am dedicating Friday mornings to my work with LPCCI, until I complete my transition to Executive Pastor.

I will be available for private consultation and training, but I would also like to suggest a monthly teleconference among ALL of our current and potential Passionate Advocates and Avid Cheerleaders for Life Purpose Coaching Centers. This 1½ hour conversation will answer key questions that all coaching center start-ups share, while also offering practical advice for taking your particular, next step forward.

The first teleconference is on

Friday, March 8, from 10:00 to 11:30am (MST).

AGENDA:

  1. Welcome & Introductions (15 mins)
  2. Discussion of Key Questions (30 mins): If you have questions, please email me by March 6th.
  3. Featured Training (30 mins): How to Ensure Your Senior Pastor's Approval (by Rick Hale or myself)
  4. "Next Step" Action Planning (15 mins)
If you're interested and available for this first, LPCCI Church Forum, please reply to me at Coaching@LendellNolan.com
and I will send you more details.

P.S. Please feel free to extend this invitation to any other forward-looking champions of church-based, coaching centers!
