Luis Wong for Assembly District 20
|
Union City's Luis Wong wants to bring his financial expertise to the State Assembly and
"work for all Californians on issues that affect the quality of life and the future of
our children and us." Wong's top priority issues include transportation, where he wants to expand BART services and find ways to relieve highway traffic, and housing, where he plans to work with local governments and private organizations to build affordable housing. Luis Wong would also encourage business development that can provide better jobs and more tax revenue. Another priority is improving school curriculum and results to better prepare students for college and the labor market. He says, "More can be accomplished in these and other areas with sound wisdom and judgment, instead of burdening our citizens with more taxes, fees, waste of resources, a growing bureaucracy and corruption."
Wong is running in the 20th Assembly District, which includes Hayward, Union City,
northern Fremont, and the surrounding unincorporated communities. See the map.
Luis Wong was born in Nicaragua to a Chinese father and a Nicaraguan mother. Together with their 10 children, they fled from civil war in Nicaragua to the United States.
Wong earned a degree in business administration from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. His professional training includes licenses in mortgage lending, various types of insurance, and real estate brokerage.
Luis has worked in mortgage lending for over 25 years, both in sales and management. He is currently a senior loan officer for a mortgage lender. Luis meets with individuals and families, "to help them evaluate and select the mortgage that best fits their needs and allows them to achieve the American dream of home ownership."
Luis also worked overseas negotiating foreign investment and trade arrangements involving three nations. He speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. Luis has volunteered in the community with the James Logan High School forensics program, Union City American Little League, and public schools attended by his children. In addition to professional organizations, he has been a member of Rotary International and the Nicarao Relief Fund. He regularly attends mass service at St. Joseph's Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Hayward, though no one in his family is hearing-impaired. Luis has resided in Union City for over 20 years with his wife Leanna. Together they have raised 3 children who attended Union City public schools.
Luis is having a fundraiser in Millbrae on Thursday, August 18. For more information, please visit Luis' campaign website or contact him at (510) 579-0968.

Bay Area Delegates Star at GOP National Convention
Bay Area Delegates Harmeet Dhillon and Peter Thiel played prominent roles at the recent Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Peter Thiel, one of Silicon Valley's most successful start-up investors, delivered a prime time speech that focused on the need to bring economic prosperity to all Americans. He cited the flat wages experienced by many Americans during the Obama years. He pointed out that our government, once a technology leader, has failed to keep up with technology advances, even in critical defense projects and installations. He criticized Hillary Clinton's failed foreign policy and spoke of the need to rebuild America's economy, essential to maintaining our global leadership.
Harmeet Dhillon delivered the Ardas Sikh prayer as the convention invocation, highlighting the diversity of faiths represented at the gathering. In addition, she served on the Convention Rules Committee where she helped preserve the connection between Republican voters and convention delegates they sent to represent them. Efforts to change the 2020 presidential nomination process to advantage one candidate over others were also defeated. California's delegation was featured in TV coverage as one of the most enthusiastic groups on the convention floor. You can see the acceptance speeches of our nominees, as well as Thiel's speech and Dhillon's prayer on the Trump-Pence Campaign page on our website.
