Steve Brown for San Jose City Council, District 2

Steve Brown wants to put his business and security background to work for the citizens of South San Jose's District Two as their next city council member.

As a council member, Steve Brown would focus on fiscal responsibility, safeguarding the city, and employment growth.  His other priorities are vocational education, attracting business, traffic relief, and bipartisanship in city government.

In the first round of voting Brown did very well, coming in a very close second to his labor-backed opponent in a four-way race.  He was endorsed by the Santa Clara County Republican Party and co-endorsed by the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.

District Two straddles Highway 101 in south San Jose and includes the  Edenvale, Santa Teresa, and Coyote Valley areas.  (See the map.)

Steve Brown has worked in positions managing global security programs for some of the world's largest tech companies.  He founded his own security consultation company, which has grown to employ some 120 people across four states.

Steve gained national attention in 2012 when he intervened in the escape of armed bank
robbers in District 2 after they robbed a Bank of America.  He captured and subdued a suspect.  (See the video.)  He was subsequently awarded the Ross Donald Good Citizen
Award by the San Jose Police Department.

Steve Brown first arrived in San Jose in 1990.  He attended Santa Teresa High School in
District 2, where he met Rosa, his future wife.  After graduating in 1993 Steve
interned with District 2 City Councilmember Charlotte Powers as a community worker.

As a college student he went on to work for the San Jose Police Department, through
Mayor Susan Hammer's Gang Taskforce, as a Community Worker counseling at risk youth in South San Jose. Additionally, Steve worked for the Oak Grove Unified School District at
Bernal Intermediate School, as a Guidance Aide.

In 1996, Steve graduated from the Police Academy (self sponsored) and started a career in global security within the world of Silicon Valley tech, where he quickly moved up
through the ranks.

Steve tells voters, "I grew up in San Jose. I graduated from Santa Teresa High. I met my wife, built a business, and am raising my family here. That is why I am committed to listening to my neighbors and working hard every day to make this city better and safer for them - and you."

Steve and his wife Rosa live in South San Jose.  They have two children.

You can find out more about Steve Brown on his campaign website.

27 Bay Area Republicans Make Top Two,
More Will Run in Local Races

In the June 7th primary election 27 Bay Area Republican candidates reached the top two runoff in the 12 counties covered by BayAreaGOP, according to results as of this writing.  Republican candidates advanced to the November runoff in 16 legislative seats and 11 congressional seats.  San Mateo County's Angel Cardenas qualified by write-in for Congressional District 14.

Impressive results came from the East Bay where Assembly Member Catharine Baker bested her opponent by 6 percent in a race that will be rerun in November.  Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen won reelection unopposed.

In the San Jose City Council races two Republicans won outright, and two others head to a November runoff.  Incumbent Council Member Johnny Khamis was reelected with a big win.  Lan Diep pulled a big upset by defeating the incumbent with 50.1% of the vote.  In South San Jose's District 2 Steve Brown finished in a near-tie for first.  Dev Davis was the top finisher in Willow Glen's District 6.

The Secretary of State will certify results on July 15.  Republican candidates for Congress, Assembly and State Senate are listed on the BayAreaGOP General Election Candidates page.

Many more Republicans will be running in local races in the fall.  The filing period will be July 18 to August 12.
