Peter Kuo for Congress, District 17

The election of Peter Kuo would send to Congress a representative with both entrepreneurial and financial experience.

Among Peter Kuo's reasons for running are to bring Silicon Valley values to Washington, to preserve the American Dream for our children, and to serve the nation, as well as the community.

Kuo lists four priorities if elected to Congress.  He would work to assure local control of education policy and to assure that healthcare is affordable, available, and transportable across state lines.  He would work to assure that Silicon Valley remains the innovation capital of the world.  And he would work across the aisle to end gridlock in Washington.

Peter Kuo manages his own insurance agency, which currently has over 3,000 clients.  He has also founded three companies, including True 3D, his own marketing company, which promoted companies' products in 3D printed media.  Today, this company serves as a consulting firm in bringing green technology to the world consumer market.

Kuo has been involved in three non-profit boards, serving on the board of directors for Life Chronicles, the American Cancer Society and the Rotary Club of Hua Ren in Silicon Valley.

Congressional district 17 is at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay in Silicon Valley and includes Fremont, Milpitas, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and North San Jose.  See the map.  It is the first majority Asian-American district in the mainland United States.

Peter Kuo was born in Taiwan in 1968, in the Year of the Monkey.  As a result of political persecution, his family immigrated to the United States when he was fourteen.

After his father opened a restaurant, Peter worked long hours washing dishes, bussing tables, and cooking.  He attended San Jose State University, where he majored in Aviation Operations.

After graduating he worked for three years at Enterprise Rent-a-Car, where he was repeatedly named "Workhorse of the month".  In 1994 Peter founded his own Farmers Insurance agency.  He has received several company awards over the years.

Peter speaks Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English.  He is also an outstanding tennis player and enjoys playing the violin.

Peter and his wife Vera live in Santa Clara and have three children.

CAGOP Convention Highlights

Harmeet Dhillon Elected
GOP National Committeewoman

The Bay Area's Harmeet Kaur Dhillon was elected without opposition Sunday to represent California on the Republican National Committee.

Dhillon says "I'm deeply honored to have been elected by my fellow CRP delegates to the position of RNC National Committeewoman."  Dhillon starts her four-year term immediately after the close of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

Harmeet will be a strong voice for California at the RNC.  "As one of California's three representatives to the RNC, I intend to make sure that California's voice is heard on the RNC Rules committee, and in shaping the party's policies and messages on a national level, supporting our candidates, and growing our party."

Dhillon has plenty of new ideas and will seek more from her constituents.  "I will make sure to use modern methods of communication to let California Republicans know what's happening at the RNC, and to solicit input from my California colleagues. I'd like to see some changes at the RNC."

Harmeet Dhillon has served as the California Republican Party's statewide Vice Chair for the last three years.  During this period, she has served as a principal media spokesperson for the party.  She has provided pro bono legal advice and served on several key committees.  Previously, she chaired the San Francisco Republican Party.

Harmeet is a nationally recognized trial lawyer and a passionate advocate for her clients, and heads her own law firm.  She was born in India, grew up in North Carolina, and attended Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law.

CRP Takes Positions on Ballot Measures

Delegates, Policy Experts Testify
at CRP Initiative Committee Hearings

After hearing from both experts and advocates, The California Republican Party took positions on virtually all ballot measures that are likely to qualify for the November Ballot.

The CRP Initiatives Committee, chaired by Charles Munger, Jr., held more than three hours of public hearings at the convention and recommended positions on 17 state measures and one regional measure. After some debate, the delegates passed all the recommendations, which are available here.

Contra Costa District Attorney Mark Peterson led the successful effort to support death penalty reform and oppose its repeal.  San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe explained the problems with the governor's sentencing plan, which the CRP then opposed.

Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association President Jon Coupal successfully advocated support for the "Cortopassi Initiative", which would require a statewide vote on revenue bonds of $2 billion or more. In addition, he led the effort to oppose the extension of the Governor's "temporary" tax increases.  Not surprisingly, the CRP
agreed wholeheartedly.

Former Senator and Assembly Republican Leader Sam Blakeslee spoke in favor of the legislative transparency initiative, which would require all bills to be in print for 72 hours prior to voting and require the legislature to make video recordings of all legislative sessions and committee hearings available to the public.  The CRP endorsed the measure.

The CRP, upon request of the nine Bay Area Republican county chairs, opposed Measure AA, the regional parcel tax for Bay restoration, which will appear on the June ballot.  Opponents believe this measure would create a large, unaccountable bureaucracy and that there are better ways to achieve the environmental objectives
behind the measure.

You can keep up with information on California ballot measures as they develop on the BayAreaGOP CA Ballot Measures page.

Best regards,
Luis
