Peter Ohtaki for Assembly District 24
| |
As he runs for Assembly in the Peninsula's District 24, Councilman Peter Ohtaki wants to bring his Silicon Valley experience to Sacramento. He says, "Silicon Valley is about doing things smaller, faster and better -- Sacramento can learn from Silicon Valley." Peter Ohtaki is a City Councilman in Menlo Park, where he served as Mayor in 2013 and was the top vote-getter in the 2010 and 2014 elections. Peter has worked successfully to balance the city's budget each year, created an innovation zone near Facebook to encourage tech and biotech jobs, and fought to revitalize Menlo Park's downtown.
Peter is running to keep control in the hands of cities and towns, and restrain Sacramento from imposing unfunded mandates on our communities. He also wants to keep Sacramento from taxing the innovative solutions generated by the tech sector. Peter believes that temporary state budget surpluses should be applied to unfunded pension liabilities, state debt, and infrastructure, instead of expanding state government. Assembly District 24 includes the Silicon Valley cities from Menlo Park to Sunnyvale plus most of the San Mateo County coast. (See the map.) The seat will be open in 2016, as incumbent Rich Gordon is termed out.
Peter Ohtaki grew up in Silicon Valley. He received his BA in Economics from Harvard, and a Stanford MBA. He was previously the CFO of a technology start-up company, as well as the Executive Director of a non-profit organization in disaster preparedness. He also served as a Director and the President of the Menlo Park Fire District Board.
Peter lives in Menlo Park with his wife, Julie and their three children. Please visit www.PeterOhtaki.com to learn more about his campaign.

November 3 Successes: Sashi McEntee Wins, SF Prop F Defeated, and More
Among several Republican successes in the November 3 elections, former Marin County Republican Party Chair Sashi McEntee was elected to the Mill Valley City Council. In addition to her past work on the county committee, Sashi is a businesswoman, mother of two daughters, Vice Chair of the city's Emergency Preparedness Commission, and a musician in a rock band. In addition to support from the county GOP and other Republicans, Sashi was able to attract significant support from other quarters in her successful campaign. She says, "Chairman Brulte always says that the candidate who looks like, sounds like, and has the shared values and shared experiences of the community will be successful. We worked hard, and our message was heard". Congratulations, Sashi!
In San Francisco, the SFGOP supported the sharing economy and ran grassroots operations opposing Proposition F, which would have further limited Airbnb rentals. Proposition F was defeated with over 55% of voters voting no.
A new section in the state GOP platform speaks to this kind of issue, calling for an environment of job creation as new business models evolve. The SFGOP was part of a winning coalition on the issue, while the Democrats were split.
The Republican Parties in Monterey, San Mateo, and San Francisco Counties worked hard and enjoyed other election wins, and you can read about them on the BayAreaGOP November 3 Elections Page. Best regards, |
