Peter Kuo for State Senate District 10
|
|
In seeking election to the State Senate, entrepreneur Peter Kuo works to bring "Common Sense Solutions" and his financial expertise to Sacramento. Peter Kuo's campaign has been propelled by his leadership in opposing SCA-5, a proposed senate constitutional amendment that would reverse Proposition 209 and allow use of racial preferences in state college and university admissions.
Democrats passed it through the State Senate on a party-line vote. (See details.)
Kuo's other priorities include making California an easy place to do business,
pension reform to avoid insolvency, protecting Proposition 13, and repealing prison realignment. Peter Kuo manages his own insurance agency, which currently has over 3,000 clients. He has also founded three companies, including Silicon Valley International Group, which helps companies in Asia brand their products.
He has served on the board of directors for NAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors) Silicon Valley where he was President from 2009-2010. Kuo serves on the boards of two community non-profits: Life Chronicles preserves a video of a person for loved ones, and Opera Bravura performs opera highlights.
The new State Senate District 10 runs from Castro Valley and Hayward at the top to Santa Clara and North San Jose at the south end. It also includes Union City, Fremont and Milpitas. It has a high Asian-American population. It is an open seat, where Democrat Ellen Corbett is termed out. (See the map.)
Kuo's opponent is Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, a Fremont bankruptcy lawyer and a Democrat. He has supported racial considerations for college admissions.
Wieckowski's proposal to allow noncitizens to serve on juries drew wide attention and passed the Legislature, but was vetoed by the governor.
The San Jose Mercury News commented about Wieckowski, "Unfortunately, he's wrong on so many other issues. He inappropriately meddled in last year's BART labor dispute and has consistently put union interests ahead of all else."
Most of Wieckowski's campaign money has come from labor unions, corporations, and PACs, while most of Kuo's contributions are from individuals. Peter Kuo was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1968, in the Year of the Monkey. As a result of political persecution, his family immigrated to the United States when he was fourteen.
After his father opened a restaurant, Peter worked long hours washing dishes, bussing tables, and cooking. He attended San Jose State University, where he majored in Aviation Operations.
After working at Enterprise Rent-a-Car for three years, Peter founded his own Farmers Insurance agency in 1994. He has received several company awards over the years.
In 2003, Peter Kuo's entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own marketing company, True 3DŽ, which utilized lenticular technology to promote companies' products in 3D printed media. Today, this company serves as a consulting firm in bringing green technology to the world consumer market.
Peter speaks Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English. He is also an outstanding tennis player and enjoys playing the violin.
Peter lives in Santa Clara with his three children and wife Vera.
You can learn more about Peter Kuo on his campaign website. Peter is having fundraisers on September 16 with Ron Nehring and on September 26 with Senator Bob Huff.

A great program is shaping up at the California Republican Party's Fall Convention, where the featured speakers will be newly elected House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and U.S. Senator Rand Paul. Rep. McCarthy will speak at the dinner banquet Saturday evening, and Sen. Paul will speak at the lunch banquet on Saturday.
Friday's dinner banquet will feature the Women of the GOP. The Master of Ceremonies will be Michelle Steel, Vice Chair of the state Board of Equalization. Remarks will be given by Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, our candidate for state Controller, and other special guests will be introduced. The convention, which has the theme "Reclaim California", will be held September 19-21 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel at 5855 West Century Boulevard in Los Angeles. Hotel information is available here.
The Convention will have hospitality suites, committee meetings, helpful workshops, exhibitors, a General Session, and a slew of great Republicans. You can get more information on the BayAreaGOP Convention page.
Important decisions will be made at the convention, and the Legislative and Congressional Leadership, including State Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff, Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway, and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, encourage all delegates to attend.
Therefore, if you are a Delegate or Alternate Delegate, you should plan to be at the General Session on Sunday to vote. If you are unable to attend, you should obtain a proxy form and contact your County Coordinator, who is working with the Leadership, as listed below. If you wish to serve as an Alternate Delegate, you must be appointed and your form submitted by Tuesday, September 9.
I hope that Bay Area attendees will attend the BayAreaGOP Reception and Convention Briefings chaired by Bay Area Regional Vice Chair Kevin Krick Friday and Saturday night at 10 pm. You'll receive the latest news on Convention votes to take place, and refreshments will be provided.
I look forward to seeing you in Los Angeles as we prepare for victory in November.
