Summer Events Are a Recruiting Opportunity
|
|
Summer social events are a great time to recruit new people to our Republican cause. As we enter August many Republicans take some time off and relax. Some of our local GOP groups schedule casual events like picnics and summer socials. While these events are a nice time to relax, hang out and enjoy the social side of politics, they also provide a political opportunity. They are a great time to reach out to people who don't know our party so well. You probably know some people who are Republicans but not active. Or some members of communities that we need to connect with. Or some people who are not Republicans but might join us if they heard our ideas. What better time to invite them to a Republican event than summer, in a low-key environment, when they can see that Republicans have sensible ideas and lots of fun, too. While almost all of the events on our Events list could be used for recruiting, here are a few that are particularly well suited for it: San Mateo GOP Summer Barbecue
Saturday, August 17, 12 Noon
Blackhawk RWF Summer Social
Saturday, August 17, 4:00 pm
SVGOP Reagan BBQ
Saturday, August 17, 5:30 pm
Solano Republicans Spaghetti Feed
Friday, August 23, 6:30 pm
SPARC Summer Picnic
Sunday, August 25, 4:00 pm
Monterey GOP Grand Ol' Picnic Sunday, Sept. 22, 1:00 pm
See the Events section for more information. Who knows? You might make a new friend for our Party.

GOP Takes Dem Senate Seat
Together we did it! Farmer Andy Vidak won the special election in the Central Valley for a State Senate seat previously held by a Democrat. (Read the story and check the numbers.) This is the first of three seats needed to break the Democrats' 2/3 supermajority in the State Senate.
Bay Area Republicans worked out ways to help, sending walkers, making calls, and donating money.
Two buses from the Bay Area took about two dozen walkers each to Fresno. The Abel Maldonado Victory Bus took walkers from Santa Clara, San Mateo, Monterey, and San Benito Counties. Kevin Krick and Tom Montgomery organized a bus that carried walkers from Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Sonoma.
Several San Francisco Republicans went by car and stayed through election day. (and made the SF Chronicle blog) A number of Bay Area Young Republicans participated in the statewide YR walk.
The Republican Parties in Alameda, Monterey, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma ran phone banks calling the district for Vidak. Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Cruz, and San Benito arranged calling by individuals. Napa callers went to the Solano phone bank.
The Lincoln Club of Northern California made the maximum donation to Vidak, while several members also made major contributions.
After walking himself, Regional Vice Chair Kevin Krick summarized, "A good bunch of people braved the heat and sun to get Andy elected, and we were all happy to do our part from the Bay Area."
Vidak is not home free yet. He must run again next year in the general election with greater turnout, but in a slightly different district with more Republican voters. (See the article.)
My deep thanks to everyone who helped. When we pull together, we can do great things.
Best regards,
|
SF Republicans Win Big
|
Last Saturday the San Francisco Young Republicans faced the Young Democrats in a different kind of contest: dodgeball! Several San Francisco supervisors were there to referee. Wearing black T-shirts that said "We Kick Donkey I Kick Ass", the GOP team delivered a solid but friendly defeat to the Dems. You can read the SF Chronicle blog story which covered the action. Way to go, SF YRs!
