California Trailblazers Supports Legislative Candidates

The California Trailblazers organization is working to train and support legislative candidates.  It will hold its next candidate school on Saturday, April 6 in Sacramento.

The mission of the California Trailblazer Program is to identify, recruit and advise a new generation of fiscally conservative leaders for California Assembly and Senate seats in 2014 and beyond.

The candidate school aims to give our candidates the tools for victory.  It is open to candidates planning to run for State Assembly or State Senate.

The school will offer insight from Republican leaders and top political experts on what it takes to win.  This school is hosted by Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway.  Speakers will include fundraiser John Bove and political strategist John Peschong.

The Trailblazer Program follows the model of the successful Young Guns Program, founded by Congressmen Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, which is widely credited with helping Republicans win the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010.

California Trailblazers is supported by Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff,  Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway, and House Majority Whip Congressman Kevin McCarthy.

At the inception of the program last year McCarthy said, "We don't have a bench. So we've got to go create one."

In 2012 three participants in the program, Frank Bigelow (AD-5), Brian Maienschein (AD-77), and Scott Wilk (AD-38), won election to the State Assembly.

The program consists of three tiers that candidates must reach progressively in order to advance in the program: 1 Pathfinder, 2 Rising Star and 3 Trailblazer.

Rigorous fundraising and campaign benchmarks are required before advancing to the next tier. As our members advance through the tiers, additional support is given to ensure a strong and competitive campaign.

When a candidate reaches a new tier, it is announced in the media and gives the candidate increased credibility in the political community.

In addition to the rigorous goals set by the 3-tier framework, the Trailblazer Program also provides resources of ongoing education for candidates to learn campaign fundamentals. Candidates will have access to industry professionals to assist in developing finance, grassroots, administrative, and political plans.

The program will supply quality fundraisers, coalition building experts, media training, issue briefings and more to ensure Trailblazer candidates have the tools to win on Election Day.

To learn more about the California Trailblazers program or the candidate school, visit their website or contact [email protected]. Registration for the candidate school is due by Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Councilman Pete Constant announces run

for San Jose Mayor

I was very pleased to learn of the recent announcement by San Jose City Councilman Pete Constant that he will enter the race for Mayor of San Jose.  The election will be held in June of 2014.  There is currently a crowded field of candidates; however, Pete is far and above the most qualified candidate.

Councilman Constant represents Council District 1, the region of West San Jos bordering Santa Clara, Saratoga, Cupertino and Campbell.  Along with current Mayor Chuck Reed, he was the architect of the successful pension reform measure that caused a ripple effect throughout the state and nation. Pete has the knowledge and experience to carry on the work of Mayor Chuck Reed on pension reform and other important fiscal issues.   I look forward to keeping Bay Area Republicans up-to-date on this important race.

California Trailblazers Begins Candidate Training

The new California Republican Party leadership is emphasizing the need to develop a strong cadre of candidates to compete in 2014. In this issue we are featuring the Trailblazers campaign school. We encourage Bay Area Republicans who are considering a run for partisan office to take advantage of this comprehensive training program.  The first school will take place on Saturday, April 6th in Sacramento.  In addition, a media training session is being planned for July in Southern California.

The work starts now to secure Republican victories in 2014.

Best regards,

Luis
