Jim Brulte for CRP Chair

California Republicans will be fortunate to have Jim Brulte as the next Chair of the California Republican Party.  Brulte, a former Assembly and Senate Republican Leader, is a dynamic, savvy, and widely respected leader.

Starting in 1990, Brulte served three terms in the Assembly and two in the State Senate.  He was elected Assembly Republican Leader and led the operation that elected the last Republican Assembly Speaker.

After moving over to the State Senate, Jim Brulte was elected in 2000 as Senate Republican Leader.  He led Republicans to a successful result in the 2002 elections.  He forcefully united Republican senators against the proposed 2003 tax increase.

During his tenure in office, Brulte focused his efforts on education, regulatory reform, crime reduction and common-sense legislation to improve California's business climate.  His measures to reform the workers' compensation and welfare systems have saved billions of dollars for both California taxpayers and California's business community.

After leaving office in 2004 Brulte joined California Strategies, a public affairs consulting firm, as a partner.  He heads the office for the Inland Empire, the region where he grew up and that he later represented in the Legislature.

Brulte's program includes four main areas.  1) He would establish an independent fundraising network that can support the CRP.  2) He would recruit and support candidates.  3) He would work to grow grassroots operations around the state.  4) He would re-double efforts to broaden our base by reaching out to various communities.

"I want to be the nuts-and-bolts chairman," he said. (Sac Bee)

Jim Brulte's candidacy for state Chairman has received support from many different groups within the party, and he is expected to win easily.

"His voting record is strongly conservative, but he also knows how to reach out to moderates and Democrats," Claremont McKenna College political scientist Jack Pitney said. (L.A. Daily News)

Jim Brulte was also listed by Capitol Weekly as one of the top power brokers in California.

Although the CRP vice chairman usually moves up to the chair, current  Vice-Chairman Steve Baric has endorsed Brulte's chairman campaign.

Brulte earned his B.A. from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  He joined the California Air National Guard where he was later honored as "Outstanding Airman of the Year" for the United States.

He served as a staffer to U.S. Senator S.I. Hayakawa, at the Republican National Committee, and in the Defense Department.  He was also a White House advance representative for Vice President George Bush.

You will be able to see Jim Brulte in action March 1-3 at the California Republican convention in Sacramento.
