News from Our Bookstores
BookBar Donates to Reading Partners for the Holidays
Elves and authors at BookBar ... note children's books on the left
and a basket of MPIBA's Winter Catalogs on the right.
BookBar decided to put a major focus on children's book sales. Their goal is to get as many books to children as possible this year, knowing that
books as gifts outlive most other plastic, fad, fleeting presents.

Books for children can have a much bigger impact than many toys or games.

BookBar has been giving 20% off every children's book sold from Small Business Saturday through Christmas Eve.

In addition, BookBar will donate $1 for every children's book sold (baby books through young adult) to Reading Partners for the work they do in getting kids to read and getting books in their hands.

As of December 22, the Reading Partners donation stands at $1,353
and BookBar expects that figure to be over $2,000 by the holiday weekend. You can follow the donation ticker on their website home page: www.bookbardenver.com; it is being updated daily so customers can follow the impact they have by shopping with BookBar.

"It has been so wonderful to see all the families fill our children's sections this season!"

Second Star to the Right
Celebrates Second Anniversary
Second Star to the Right Children's Books in Denver, Colorado
A "Best of Denver" bookstore
Second Star to the Right Children's Books in Denver recently celebrated their second year of magic.

The evening began with a typical gathering of many kids. There was a local music duo that provided Disney sing-along tunes, a book cake with candles that were quickly blown out by the kids, raffles, giveaways, and of course, storytime.

Owner Dea Lavoie says that she is thrilled
with how the store has been embraced

by the Tennyson-Berkeley neighborhood and the Greater Denver community. "People know that we're a place of comfort, nurturing, and fun, and they know we love their kids! We have had so much support, and nothing but kind words.

We were voted Best Bookstore by our customers on Denver's A-list and couldn't be more proud. We have daily story time where the local police officer, dentist, and others in the community read. We have events every week that include yoga, authors, parties, characters, and dog story time.

Business is flourishing, and we're having so much fun!"

RTW Logo 2011
The Reading the West Book Awards provide an opportunity to promote authors, increase book sales, expand reach, and create awareness.

Reading the West is a program sponsored by Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association that assists publishers, authors, and booksellers in promoting and building sales for exceptional books and authors in the Mountains & Plains region.

These adult and children's titles exemplify the best in writing and/or illustrations whose subject matter is set in the region or evokes the spirit of the region: Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

Booksellers, publishers, authors, and others can nominate titles that are published for the first time in calendar year 2016.

The nomination deadline is December 31, 2016. The author's place of residence is immaterial for this award.
