Spotlight on Second Star to the Right Children's Books
On a warm summer night Second Star to the Right Children's Books recently hosted author Corinne Magid who wrote JULIE THE BRAVE.

The audience was spellbound by the magic of her story and eager to hear more. Afterward the group made magic wands and Corinne brought "Symbas" to open (sparkly eggs with a surprise inside). This activity is one of many the 10 month-old Second Star hosts.

Along with featuring an author and craft every First Friday, they offer storytime every day Tuesday through Sunday, along with Wednesday evening PJ storytime.

Owner Dea Lavoie is a retired teacher who always had a dream to open a children's bookstore. Along with her husband and staff, she has created a magical experience for all children.

The quaint, century-old converted house is home to both old and new books and is filled with nooks and crannies for reading.

Stars hanging from the ceiling, glittery paint, and fun kid-sized chairs create a magical feeling for children, while multicolored stairs lead the way to a colorful reading room.

Join the Crenshaw
Food Drive

Macmillan Children's Publishing Group is partnering with independent bookstores to host a nationwide food drive to raise awareness of childhood hunger. Inspired by CRENSHAW, a new middle-grade novel by Newbery Medalist Katherine Applegate, bookstores are teaming up with their local food pantry to collect food items for children in need throughout the month of October.

Interested in Participating?

Register on CrenshawtheBook.com to participate. For every store that signs up, Macmillan will donate $100* to No Kid Hungry, an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger.

PW ran a wonderful article on the campaign! Click here for more information: Macmillan's Novel Approach to Combating Childhood Hunger
