March Is Arts in the Schools Month!

Any time is a great time to invite elected officials to visit an arts classroom, exhibit or performance - but March is a particularly good time, since it's Arts in the Schools and Youth Arts Month. We're partnering with the NH Arts Learning Network to encourage participation in a statewide campaign to bring elected officials into schools and community sites to witness the power of learning in and through the arts. The opportunity to witness students' creativity, engagement, learning and joy has great impact on any observer. Federal, state and local elected officials have to make difficult decisions about education, including arts education programs. Help us demonstrate the value of arts education, so that arts programs can survive and thrive. To learn how to get involved - and to download detailed materials to make the whole process easy - click here.

Sunday, March 22, 2pm - The Maine Frontier
Sumner McKane presents his live, multimedia "docu-exhibit," The Maine Frontier, which combines never-before-seen photography of Isaac Simpson with archived and current film, oral histories, and a compelling musical score. It investigates the geographical circumstances of a region virtually disconnected from the rest of the state and country. Life in this isolated region often led to struggle in tragedy, and demanded persistent hard work - evident on the faces and in the environment of Simpson's subjects.

WMNF & AANNH Artists in Residence Programs

Artists in all media are invited to apply for the 2015 White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) Artist-in-Residence program, a collaboration between the WMNF and the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire. The program highlights the ways in which the arts can be used to explore and interpret the forest environment and forest-related ideas and issues. The residency offers professional and emerging artists in any art form from around the country (visual and performing artists, craftspeople, writers, composers and choreographers, eco artists and media artists) an opportunity to pursue their work while being inspired by the surrounding forest and, on several occasions, share their art and their artistic process with members of the public. Artists in residence are also invited to meet with and learn from Forest Service personnel in their areas of interest (wildlife, forestry, hydrology, etc.).
Applications will be accepted through April 17. The artist selected will choose a period of at least three weeks between July and September to be in residence. Download application materials from the website at www.aannh.org. Questions? Email [email protected] or call (603) 323-7302.
