The Wilderness Act defines "Wilderness" as areas where the earth and its communities of life are left unchanged by people, where the primary forces of nature are in control, and where people themselves are visitors who do not remain. The Great Hurricane, as it came to be known, changed everything, from the landscape and its inhabitants' lives, to Weather Bureau practices, to the measure and kind of relief New Englanders would receive during the Great Depression and the resulting pace of regional economic recovery. Wednesday, May 28, 6pm - Learn to Make Japanese Dumplings, with Kazuko Okubo The Gyoza originally came from China, and is a variation of "Jiaozi" or Chinese Dumplings. The most prominent differences between Japanese-style gyoza and Chinese-style jiaozi are the rich garlic flavor, which is less noticeable in the Chinese version, the light seasoning of Japanese gyoza with salt and soy sauce, and the fact that gyoza wrappers are much thinner. She chose a farm with known coyote problems to raise sheep and train her border collies. Using sound livestock management and common sense, she has avoided any predation for nearly two decades. A peaceful co-existence between coyote and livestock has grown an attentive audience for humane management. Wednesday, June 18, 6pm - Treating Lyme Disease Holistically More than 50% of the ticks in NH carry Lyme disease. What is worse, only about 30% of those diagnosed report finding a tick or getting the tell tale "bulls eye rash." However, there are many things that can be done to prevent and treat Lyme disease. Join Dr.Jilian Stogniew for a discussion on treating Lyme disease holistically.
