Promoting, Supporting and Sustaining
Arts, Culture and Heritage in the North Country
We have much to be thankful for this month, especially our member organizations and all of you who support them in bringing the very best cultural programming, workshops and events to the North Country. To find out what they're doing this month, read on!

Bulletin instructions: If this e-bulletin comes through for you as one long text message, click on the Arts Alliance website at www.aannh.org for the user-friendly version. Choose "Join our e-list" in the left-hand column, then enter your email address. You will receive an email from the Arts Alliance. Click to update your Profile. At the bottom of the Profile page, select HTML format. Save your changes. That should solve the problem and allow you to view the bulletin more easily.

The bulletin, for you and your guests, is arranged by sub-regions from north to south and by date. Please be sure to confirm details and hours prior to attending events or visiting sites. Use our "jump to" function (in the column to the left under the In This Issuesection), which allows you to go directly to your geographic areas of interest. You can view our complete ArtsNorth calendar for additional details; a link is available in the Quick Links section.

The e-bulletin lists the events and programs of Arts Alliance member organizations, businesses and artists. If you would like us to list your events, we invite you to join the Arts Alliance now! Membership provides essential support so that we can continue to bring programs as well as services like the e-bulletin and calendar to you, your families, colleagues, customers, neighbors and friends throughout the year. Your member card offers discounts on a variety of programs and at many of the region's best restaurants, venues and creative businesses. Click here for details and to join.

Please be sure to let us know if any listings need to be updated as we move through fall -- and into winter.

If you're a current Arts Alliance member, we'd like to exhibit you - your business, organization, or artwork! Please email info@aannh.org to arrange to mail or drop off your materials by November 12. Not a member? You can join now!

Fall is a great time for professional development that you can use throughout the coming year. Among our offerings:

Annual Arts in Early Learning Conference: Using visual arts, music, creative drama and movement, we'll explore how all kinds of activities flowing from one book -- the much loved Where the Wilds Things Are -- can unlock self-expression and positive group dynamics, and advance language and literacy learning in preschools and elementary schools, libraries and child-care centers. While we'll use this familiar book for the day's activities, we'll also be looking at a wide range of books and stories that lend themselves to an arts-based approach to building both language and social skills. Special attention will be paid to connections to the Common Core and inclusion. The conference will be held on November 9 in Amherst and November 16 in Plymouth. Click here for details and to register.

Environmental Literacy through the Arts: Join us November 18 for the second installment of our program, with an all-day workshop for preK-12 educators, parents and interested community members. The workshop is at Tin Mountain Conservation Center in Albany, near Conway. The day will include a hands-on session on nature journaling, as well as presentations on some of the school programs inspired by our spring gathering, plus additional discussion and information sharing. Professional development credits are offered. Cost for the day is $20; scholarships are available. Register here.

Arts Learning Network Meet Up & Free Integrated Arts workshop: Join us for two events in one, including a great opportunity to learn from and talk with Professor Trish Lindberg, Coordinator of Integrated Arts programs at Plymouth State University. Trish will offer a participatory workshop that allows interested teachers to experience, firsthand, the joys of arts integration and its ability to engage students and power the curriculum. She will also provide information about graduate opportunities in Integrated Arts and CAGS in Arts, Leadership and Learning. The workshop will take place at 4pm on November 19, in the library of Lafayette Regional School in Franconia.

Preceding the workshop, from 3 to 4pm, join us for refreshments and a networking Meet Up where you can hear about the NH Arts Learning Network and meet our new Program Director Jamie Feinberg. Come for the Meet Up, the workshop, or both. There is no cost to attend, but preregistration is requested. Click here to register. Questions? Email info@aannh.org.

Placing the Arts at the Heart, the 19th Annual Reimagined Integrated Arts Conference, takes place Friday, January 24, 2014, at Silver Center for the Arts at Plymouth State University. Learn to connect to the state's new standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy and the new voluntary National Core Arts Standards. We're pleased to partner with PSU--and with the NH Department of Education, the State Council on the Arts and the NH Arts Learning Network--on this full-day conference. Click here for details.

Upcoming Programs: We're planning programs for the school year, and beyond, including many regional residencies. Get in touch with us if you'd like to learn more about our school, community and Arts in Health programs -- or if you'd like us to work with you to design customized programs for your school, organization or town. Email info@aannh.org or call 323-7302.

Two featured performers from the Colonel Town Players, Dennis MacKay and Susan Lahout, star inLove Letters, a compelling story of a lifelong correspondence which began in childhood and spans over a period of 50 years, revealing a caring but complex relationship. The play is unusual in that there is no set, virtually no props beyond what is seen on the stage and there are no staged entrances and exits. This type of play is, in the theater world, a stage reading; it relies heavily on the content of the dialogue and the interpretation of the actors.
Performed at the Tillotson Center on Carriage Lane in Colebrook. The performers have graciously offered to donate the proceeds to the GNWCA as a fundraiser in appreciation for the quality performances the GNWCA continues to bring to the Tillotson Center and other regional venues.

Friday, November 8, 6-8 pm - Meet the Artist Exhibit Opening: Land and Lake Scapes - the Digital Drawings of Marian Federspiel
Marian Federspiel is a digital painter of landscapes and lakescapes in the Mountain and Lakes Regions of New Hampshire. Digital painting is a relatively new medium; Marian creates images using pixels as her "paint" and a mouse as her "brush" and the computer monitor as her "canvas." The painting process is similar to traditional painting. A scene inspires an image in her mind and pencil sketches and photos are taken for reference. The scene is then "hand drawn" with the mouse. The images are not manipulated photographs; they are drawn by the artist's hand. After the image is created, it is printed on archival matte paper. The result is a brilliantly-colored serigraph-like print. Work can be viewed on the web at www.mfederspiel.com. Exhibiting November 2-December 30. Call the Library for more information.
