Sunday, August 25, 7pm - Celebrating the Moose Festival, the rocking Canadian blues band headed by Charlie A'Court will have the Tillotson Center jumping. Saturday, September 7, 7pm - Jay Craven's new film Northern Borders will play at the Tillotson Center under the GNWCA's sponsorship; director Craven will be on hand to talk about the new film. The mission of the group is to promote the visual arts and provide support to new and established artists in Northern New Hampshire and Vermont as well as Southeastern Quebec. Members are able to participate in exhibits, receive reimbursement for conducting workshops, and be involved with other art-related activities sponsored by CRAG. Monday-Friday, through August 23, 2-5pm - Summer Art Classes The Connecticut River Artisan Group is making a concerted effort to reach out to the youth in the North Country who are interested in the visual arts. Students will have an opportunity to exhibit their works of art at the CRAG exhibit during the Moose Festival. They will also participate in the Old Home Day art show in Pittsburg and visit the CRAG gallery at Fiddleheads. These classes will be held at the Tillotson Center, offered to area students aged 12 and up. This program is part of the 2013 program series: AMC Huts: Celebrating 125 Years of White Mountain Hospitality Tuesday, August 20 - Stars Above the Notch: Astronomy at Pinkham Join professional astronomer Dr. Douglas Arion and his students from Carthage College for an evening of stellar observation. Participants will have a chance to view the sky through powerful telescopes for an extraordinary peek at the cosmos. This program is part of AMC's ongoing series of astronomy and solar programs throughout the summer. Thursday, August 22 - Journey through the White Mountains Professional Photographer Dave Smith will take the audience on a journey along mountain tops, waterfalls and a number of trails, with photos, history and folklore. During the presentation he will talk about the early settlers that made history in the White Mountains like Darby Field the Willey Family and Chief Chocorua, and other events that took place in the 1700s and 1800s. At the end of the presentation Dave will take questions about photography and history in the White Mountains. Sunday, August 25 - Beavers: The Biggest Dam Movie You Ever Saw Take an intimate swim with beavers and experience the rich aquatic habitat of one of nature's greatest engineers. Set in the pristine forests and lakes in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, this film follows the lives of a family of beavers as they grow, play and transform the world around them. Tuesday, August 27 - Alone in the Wilderness To live in a pristine land unchanged by man... to roam a wilderness through which few other humans have passed... to choose an idyllic site, cut trees and build a log cabin. Thousands have had such dreams, but Richard Proenneke lived them. This video is a simple account of the day to day exploration and activities he carried out alone, and the constant chain of nature's events that kept him company. Thursday, August 29 - Intrepid Descent This documentary captures the classic backcountry skiing experience of Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington and explores the rich history of the ravine, which has been home to triumph and tragedy since the early 1920s. A present day narrative takes viewers from the daunting hike and climb up the Ravine to the exhilarating descent over the lip, while interviews with experts, meteorologists, and rare historical footage provide a broad and dynamic view of Tuckerman's. Picnic areas, hiking, skiing and snowshoe trails. Bretzfelder Park, Prospect Street in Bethlehem, is managed in cooperation with the town of Bethlehem. Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour of the New Hampshire Maple Experience at The Rocks and visit the Maple Museum, housed in one of many carefully restored historic buildings on the Estate. The museum includes a collection of historic and modern tools used in sugaring. A video played inside the sugar house provides a virtual tour of the springtime sugaring process. Center Sandwich www.advicetotheplayers.org Advice To The Players is a unique company of theater professionals, enthusiastic community members and energetic teens that presents Shakespeare performances and workshops in New Hampshire's Lakes and Mountains Region. ATTP is supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts & the National Endowment for the Arts. Shakespeare presentations are in August during Sandwich Old Home Week, October during the Sandwich Fair, and in March. His love of and devotion to black bears has enabled him to study their habits and interact with them for more than two decades. He, his wife Debra and sister Phoebe have accepted orphaned bear cubs into their facility and enabled them to successfully return to the wild. Ben has been the focus of several news articles and documentaries, including National Geographic's A Man Among Bears and Animal Planet's Papa Bear.
