The mission of the group is to promote the visual arts and provide support to new and established artists in Northern New Hampshire and Vermont as well as Southeastern Quebec. Members are able to participate in exhibits, receive reimbursement for conducting workshops, and be involved with other art-related activities sponsored by CRAG. Saturday, July 27 - North Country Moose Join Alan Stearne as he dispels the "Bullwinkle" myth of the moose and explains the purpose of the moose's morphology - form following function. Stearne will also discuss the moose's life cycle from calves to cows and bulls, as well as behavior, disease, reproduction and interaction with humans Tuesday, July 30 - Alone in the Wilderness To live a pristine land unchanged by man... to roam a wilderness through which few other humans have passed to choose an idyllic site, cut trees and build a log cabin. Thousands have had such dreams, but Richard Proenneke lived them. This video is a simple account of the day to day exploration and activities he carried out alone, and the constant chain of nature's events that kept him company. Advice to the Players Performances, Workshops & Events
Center Sandwich www.advicetotheplayers.org Advice To The Players is a unique company of theater professionals, enthusiastic community members and energetic teens that presents Shakespeare performances and workshops in New Hampshire's Lakes and Mountains Region. ATTP is supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts & the National Endowment for the Arts. Shakespeare presentations are in August during Sandwich Old Home Week, October during the Sandwich Fair, and in March. Venues include the Sandwich Fairgrounds Stage, The Sandwich Town Hall and The Barnstormers Theatre in Tamworth.The December presentation of A Christmas Carol celebrates Victorian Christmas in Tamworth Village. Daytime performances and workshops for schools and student groups are offered during the school year and in July Shakespeare Camps for students of all ages are on tap. Monday-Friday, July 15-26, 9am-12noon - Snapdragon Shakespeare Camp Richard & Marion Posner, directors of Snapdragon Theater Guild and Tamworth Learning Circles, will lead young actors (ages 8-12) in character development, improvisation, stage skills, cooperative games and just plain fun creating a lively, magical rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Conducted outside at the Sandwich Fairground Stage. Monday-Friday, July 15-26, 9am-12noon - Shakesperience Older thespians (ages 12-15) will work with visiting director Candace Clift on a range of skills in a dynamic exploration of Shakespeare's words, stories, and themes. Improv, clowning, text work, and even some stage combat provide keys to theatrical adventure and summer fun. July 22-August 18, 1-5pm - Young Players Practicum Designed for young actors (ages 13+) who want to explore new acting challenges and participate in a professional Shakespeare production. With limited enrollment, this four-week program provides individualized, intensive acting training, followed by participation in our August 9-18 production of Much Ado About Nothing. Areas of advanced instruction include monologue and/or scene study, stage voice development, text tools for examining Shakespeare's verse, stage combat, clown and period dance and movement. Cartoonist Marek Bennett will help Junior Historians (ages 11-14; 5th-8th grade) interpret Sandwich history in comics form, and publish it as mini-comics for friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy. Campers will choose favorite (or lesser-known) local stories to develop as comics, studying techniques of character design, page layout, catching (and holding) a reader's attention, and self-publishing original work in book form. Optional additional studio time afterwards until 2pm each day. On the final day of camp we will host a reception and reading of our new comics from 12noon-2pm.
