Greetings, I hope this newsletter finds you doing well.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dad's out there. In honor of Father's Day on June 15th, I am offering a couple of specials for the Dad's who are looking to improve their golf game (Please look to the left for details).

The United States Open starts on Thursday, June 12 at Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina. It should be an exciting tournament even though Tiger will not be playing due to injury. It will be interesting to see if Phil Mickelson can capture his first U.S. Open to complete a career grand slam. In honor of the U.S. Open, a free 30 minute lesson will be given to any student who correctly picks the winner (picks must be turned in before the start of play). Good luck with your pick! My pick is Jordan Spieth.
In the rest of the newsletter, you will see the following features:

     SWING TIP OF THE MONTH

Misconception #1

Keep Your Head Down

Without fail, the number one tip that golfer's receive is to keep their head down. In my 17 years of teaching, I have never told a student to do this. This suggestion is normally given after a ball has been topped, but focusing on keeping one head's down has no influence on correcting that miss and leads to  more problems than solutions, including excessive tension and placing too much of a focus on the ball.  In the rest of the video, you will see why a golfer tops the ball (as well as the correction) and numerous examples of tour players who are not even looking at the ball when they hit it.

PGA Tour Player Swing of the Month

2014 Memorial Champion

Hideki Matsuyama

Congrats to Hideki for his winning his first PGA Tour event. The 22 year old is an amazing player and has quite a future ahead of him. He is very long off the tee and has a very technically sound golf swing- the one unique thing about his swing is how slowly he takes it back and pauses at the top. His backswing takes 1.38 seconds where as most tour professionals takes about .8 seconds.

Honor Roll Students

  • Alex Vasel- Alex shot a career low and broke 90 for the first time with a  88 at Mission Trails
  • Edry Goot-  Edry was Ace of the Month at Coronado Golf Course and broke 100 with a 98.
  • Jim Nalls- Jim shot his career low of 75 at St. Marks Golf Course.
  • Erika Thornes- Erika and her partner won the 3rd flight in the net division of the Summer Classic at RBCC.
  • Rich Lawson- broke 100 for the first time ever with a 98 at Desert Hills, previous best was 112.

If you have had a great round or accomplishment in golf, please share it with me so that I may put it in the next newsletter.
