Greetings!

Greetings, I hope this newsletter finds you doing well.

The second major, the United States Open is coming up in a couple of weeks at Merion CC in Pennsylvania. Tiger will once again be the favorite, but should face some stiff competition from a lot of top players. I am going to go out a little bit on a limb and pick Charl Schwarzel to win it- think he is due to win his second major. As we did for the Masters, you can email me your pick as to who you think will win, and if you are correct, you will receive a free 30 minute lesson.

My rates, as of June 1st, have gone up $5 for adults, but has remained the same for juniors. The good news is that as a current student, you are GRANDFATHERED IN AND CAN PAY THE OLD RATE. If you do pay for your lesson in the shop (via credit card), you will need to let them know how much to ring up ($60 for 1/2 hour, $330 for series, etc...) before running your credit card, otherwise they will charge you the new rate. If you don't want to tell the pro shop about getting the old rate, you can also pay me directly (cash or check).
In the rest of the newsletter, you will see the following features:

*Video Tip on the misconception of keeping your left arm straight.

*Video of 2013 Colonial Champion- Boo Weekley.
*Honor Roll Students
*Upcoming dates for One Day Golf School, Short Game School, and Play with the Pro.

     SWING TIP OF THE MONTH

Misconception #2 -

Keeping your left arm straight.

Misconception #2 Left arm straight:www.hicksgolf.com

Most golfers who focus on keeping their left arm straight unfortunately attempt to do so by creating a lot of tension in the arms which robs the golfer of not only distance, but also throws off the sequencing. Watch the video to see how that instead of focusing on keeping our left arm straight, we should be trying to maintain the same width and why you may be bending your arms too much as well as a drill that can be done to improve it.

Please let me know if there are any topics that you would like to see highlighted in the swing tip of the month.

PGA Tour Player Swing of the Month

2013 Colonial Champion - Boo Weekley

I love Boo's swing, especially his footwork (he allows his right leg to straighten and lifts his left heel off the ground in the backswing) and serves as a great example for those who try to freeze their lower body. He has been one of the best ball striker's for years, but his struggles with the putter has kept him back. It was great to see such a colorful personality win on tour again and to watch his very free flowing and effortless swing.

Honor Roll Students

  • Joe Aceves- Joe is down to his lowest HCP ever of 3.9 and shot his career low of 73 twice.
  • Ian Harkness- Ianshot his career low of 85 at Barona, four better than his previous best.
  • Kevin Giles- Kevin shot his career low of 90 at Mission Trails, two better than his previous best.
  • Tom Davis- Tom broke 80 for the first time at Torrey North.
  • Elliot Mast- Shot his best score ever of 77, two lower than his previous best.
  • Paul Najar- Paul shot his career low of 93 at Doonbeg.

If you have had a great round or accomplishment in golf, please share it with me so that I may put it in the next newsletter.
