The Beauty and Grace of Dolphins and Whales

Dear Fellow Whale Lovers ~

The first time I saw whales, they took my breath away--an immediate deep spiritual connection with them washed through me the moment I saw them. I knew I was with family and a commitment to them was born. That day, in 1988, I had the first of hundreds of conversations with whales--and it changed my life. Since then, I've seen countless whales on the surface on whale watch trips; and I have had the privilege of having more than 150 encounters with them in the water in Silver Bank. And still, I always yearn for more time with whales and their energy. So, in addition to our daily conversations, trips to see them, and activism to help them, I enjoy filling my home with whale images, hanging whale prayer flags in my garden, wearing whale jewelry, listening to their songs and watching whales in films. It's true--I can't get enough of them! My heart is filled with their love; my heart belongs to the whales.

It is so easy to be captivated by their wisdom, beauty and grace. To me, there is no animal or human on earth who can match the unique combination of exquisite gracefulness, gentleness and physical power of the humpback whale. Every time I see them, the magic of who they are as souls and how they present themselves physically astounds me once again. The words from Josh Groban's song, "My Confession," describe it well. Though his lyrics likely refer to a human love story, when I hear this beautiful song, it is the whales I think of:

I am staggered by your beauty, your unassuming grace.

People often ask me what the whales say in our conversations--how they perceive their own lives, their interactions with humans, what it's like for them in captivity, and their role in healing others. To answer these questions I created a webinar with a few dozen stories from our 25 years of conversations, which is now available on-demand.
