A Rare Ten Day Trip To Swim with the Humpback Whales of Silver Bank
March 29 - April 8, 2014
Not an expedition for the ego, but a journey for the soul ~
Hello fellow whale lovers,
Last October I announced the possibility of this ten day--versus the typical seven day--trip to to swim and communicate with humpback whales in Silver Bank. I was ecstatic when it filled in two months. However, a family who was going to join us has had to cancel and we now have a few openings.
When we are with the whales for a week, it is a heavenly, deeply rewarding experience for everyone. According to messages from the whales who initiate encounters with us, it is an exciting opportunity for them to help us learn more about who they are, to teach their calves about human energy, and to exchange healing energy and love. And certainly, it is a grand honor for each of us as humans to have the privilege of being quietly near them and sharing so much love in person. The last day together seems to come too quickly--it never seems like enough time. So when the captain with whom I charter, Tom Conlin of Aquatic Adventures, discussed the possibility of a ten day trip I jumped at the opportunity.

The ten day trip affords almost the same amount of time in the water with the whales as one would experience on two full week trips--but has the advantage of just one round trip from land to Silver Bank instead of two, and less time away from home than if taking two consecutive trips. Another interesting advantage of this trip is that all day Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday morning our boat will be the only vessel on Silver Bank, because the other two operators will be traveling back and forth to Puerto Plata during this time. This means that during our excursions to be with the whales, there will only be two tenders in the water versus six, eliminating any time when we defer an encounter with a whale(s) to another group because the whale may be closer to that tender.
A comparison in schedules, including time with the whales, and trip fees is described below.
The schedule for a one week trip is as follows:
Saturday afternoon board the boat. Late Saturday evening through Sunday morning cruise to Silver Bank.
Half day excursions to be with the whales (9 total half days with the whales):
1 on Sunday afternoon
2 on Monday
2 on Tuesday
2 on Wednesday
2 on Thursday
Friday cruise back to land. Dinner with the group on land that evening.
Saturday morning disembark from the boat
The schedule for the ten day trip is as follows:
Saturday afternoon board the boat in Puerto Plata. Late saturday evening through sunday morning cruise to Silver Bank.
Half day excursions to be with the whales (17 total half days with the whales):
1 on Sunday afternoon
2 on Monday
2 on Tuesday
2 on Wednesday
2 on Thursday
2 on Friday
2 on Saturday
2 on Sunday
2 on Monday
Monday night cruise back to land.
Tuesday arrive back to Puerto Plata; disembark from the boat.

Trip Fee Comparisons
Bunk Cabin:
10 day trip: $5,800 per person 17 half days with the whales
7 day trip: $3,195 per person 9 half days with the whales
Savings if take 10 day trip vs. two 7 day trips: $590
Twin Bed Cabin:
10 day trip: $6,100 per person 17 half days with the whales
7 day trip: $3,395 per person 9 half days with the whales
Savings if take 10 day trip vs. two 7 day trips: $690
Master Cabin:
10 day trip: $6,400.00 per person 17 half days with the whales
7 day trip: $3,595 per person 9 half days with the whales
Savings if take 10 day trip vs. two one week trips: $790
The reason the 10 day trip fees are not a simple 1.5 x the 7 day trip fee is that a major cost for operators is fuel for our tender trips to be with the whales. The 10 day trip structure includes 17 tender trips, while the 7 day trip includes only 9.
