A message from the Standing Committee

We, the Standing Committee of the diocese, want, first of all, to congratulate Bishop Breidenthal on his nomination for the office of Presiding Bishop. We both love and respect him and are not surprised that his fellow bishops hold him in esteem. We want the diocese to know that we wholeheartedly offer him our support, care and prayers through the electoral process.

As he explained in his letter to the diocese, should he be elected, the Standing Committee will have ecclesiastical authority. Be assured we are ready to assume this responsibility and will exercise it diligently. Should he not be elected, we welcome him back with open hearts to continue our mutual ministry in the diocese.

Please keep the diocese, our bishop and his family in your prayers in this time. Pray the General Convention exercise prayerful wisdom and discernment at their meeting to be held June 25-July 3 in Salt Lake City. The new presiding bishop will be elected by the House of Bishops on June 27th. The House of Deputies then vote to confirm the election. We offer the following prayer, a composite of prayers from the Book of Common Prayer.

Almighty and Everlasting God, you have given the Holy Spirit to abide with us forever: Bless, we pray with the Holy Spirit's grace and presence, the bishops, clergy and laity soon to be assembled in your Name, that your Church, being preserved in true faith and Godly discipline, may fulfill the mind of Christ who loved it and gave himself for it. Guide the minds of those who shall chose a presiding bishop. May we receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
