Interfaith Doctor of Ministry program

Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion is the oldest Jewish seminary in North America. The Cincinnati campus of HUC-JIR is currently exploring the option of adding an interfaith Doctor of Ministry program. The Institutional Research and Assessment department of HUC-JIR would greatly appreciate it if you could take this anonymous, brief survey that will help guide our decision making in establishing this program. Thank you.

Renew your spirit in Russia at Pentecost
A cultural, spiritual, and people- to- people visit to St. Petersburg, Novgorod and Sablino

Pentecost iconThe Miami Valley Episcopal Russian Network (MVERN) announces that its next adult trip to Russia is scheduled for June 2-13, 2014, during the famous White Nights, when the sun never sets.
Renew your spirit through the pageantry and splendor of Pentecost services, when birch branches and flowers cover the interiors of Russian churches and cathedrals. Explore the world-renowned cultural and historical sites of St. Petersburg, including the great Hermitage State Museum, the nearby gardens and fountains of the Petrodvorets Palace and the beautifully restored Catherine Palace. Not to be missed is a side trip to the ancient capital of Novgorod. See first-hand MVERN's ministry in the village of Sablino and work together with parishioners as they prepare St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox church for the great celebration of Pentecost.
The trip will cost approximately $3,000 plus airfare and will be led by the Rev. Dr. Dave Cottrill and Dr. Joseph Schenk. As in the past, your guide will be Dr. Igor Tolochin, professor of English at the University of St. Petersburg.
Brochures with complete details will be available by mid-August. For additional information please send your name, mailing address and E-mail address to MVERN, c/o Dr. Joseph Schenk, 620 Shafor Blvd., Dayton, OH 45419-3832 or schenk@udayton.edu.
Nonprofit Board Leadership Certificate Program

Become a Recognized Leader in Giving Back to Your Community!
Sept 17 - Nov 5
Applications now being accepted!

Miami University Corporate and Community Institute, in partnership with the Butler County United Way and held at the Voice of America Learning Center on Cox Road in West Chester, will offer a Non-profit Board Leadership Certificate program beginning in September.

Designed for both new and existing board members, this program combines best-practice, proven tools and interactive experiences to build your skills as a solid leader and contributor of a nonprofit organization.
This in-depth, 8-week course covers key topics presented by some of the area's most influential instructors and speakers.  Topics include financial management, HR fundamentals, legal responsibilities, board governance, strategic planning, group dynamics, dealing with conflict, resource development, media relations, the importance of succession planning, to name a few.

Learn by doing as you apply your knowledge to real-world case studies and gain an appreciation of the decisions board members need to make.  Read and discuss the "hidden rules" that govern many aspects of life for the poor which helps you understand the people you may be serving.  Enjoy an expo and talk, one-on-one, to those currently leading nonprofit organizations. Then, let us pair you with a nonprofit that matches your passions and a mentor that will provide continuous learning.

Now more than ever our nonprofits need dynamic, committed and mission-passionate leaders serving on their Board of Directors.  This begins with comprehensive training that ensures success on day one!  Be well informed about your board authority and accountability.

Congregation audits

Each year every church in the diocese is required to complete a financial audit for the previous year ended December 31. For several years the audit guidelines have not been mailed but can be found on the Diocesan website on the finance page. These guidelines are for audit committees and should be followed when completing the parish audit.

Audits should be completed and sent to the Diocesan finance office by September 2. Please direct any questions to Chief Financial Officer David Robinson at drobinson@diosohio.org or 800.582.1712.
