Clergy familiarization tour at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base
The Ohio National Guard will hold a Clergy Familiarization Tour at Rickenbacker Air National Guard base in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, September 12, 2013. The purpose of this event is to familiarize clergy with the Ohio National Guard's mission and members so that we may more fully partner with Ohio's civilian faith-based community to improve spiritual wellness in the military culture.
Ideal participants include senior faith leaders or other paid congregational staff. We ask that only one candidate be nominated from each organization.
At this event, you will hear an overview briefing about the contemporary role of the Ohio National Guard from a General Officer and a deployment experience from a military chaplain. You will be able to sit-in or be hands-on with military equipment such as a UH-60 Helicopter, KC-135 Stratotanker, Army National Guard ground vehicles, Special Forces weapons and USAF pilot gear. You will also have the opportunity to try your hand at Army convoy and marksmanship training simulators. In addition, our guests tell us that interacting with Soldiers and Airmen at the event is a highlight.
We will start at about 8 a.m. and conclude by 2 p.m.
If you would like to be considered for participation, please complete the electronic form at https://www.research.net/s/12SeptClergy and return it as soon as possible. Please be sure to fill in all the blanks. Please feel free to contact the Ohio National Guard Community Outreach office at 614.336.7002 or ng.oh.oharng.mbx.ong-outreach@mail.mil if you have questions. Stewardship of Religious Buildings: The Church as Centerpiece of Community and Congregation
The General Theological Seminary
440 West 21st Street, New York
Thursday-Saturday, July 11-13, 2013
Single Day Ticket: $125
Three Day All-Access: $300
The General Theological Seminary with Lichten Craig Donaldson Architects will host a three-day seminar on the stewardship of religious institutions. The seminar will look at religious buildings as both three-dimensional theological statements and as long-term assets and investments central to a church's mission, focusing on physical and financial planning to enhance a church's value as real property and a center in the larger community.
The American Institute of Architects will offer continuing education units (CEU) to participants.
The seminar will focus on understanding stewardship as a rational planning process, managing change, and responsibly overseeing resources and, in particular, the church building as the shelter and centerpiece of community and religious life. We will look at the concept of stewardship in the broadest sense from day-to-day issues of facility management to the repair and renovation of buildings, upgrade of systems, and common-sense principles of sustainable design.
The program will provide valuable information to seminarians, clergy and lay leaders, architects and preservationists, and facility managers to address the many complex issues of managing church buildings. The seminar will emphasize the concepts of stewardship and renewal, not only as imperatives for the success of a church's mission, but also as guarantors of its economic growth and survival.

Congregation audits
Each year every church in the diocese is required to complete a financial audit for the previous year ended December 31. For several years the audit guidelines have not been mailed but can be found on the Diocesan website on the finance page. These guidelines are for audit committees and should be followed when completing the parish audit.
Audits should be completed and sent to the Diocesan finance office by September 2. Please direct any questions to Chief Financial Officer David Robinson at drobinson@diosohio.org or 800.582.1712.
