Renewing Your Spirit: A pilgrimage to Russia at Pentecost
The Miami Valley Episcopal Russian Network (MVERN) announces that its next adult trip to Russia is scheduled for June 2-13, 2014, during the famous White Nights, when the sun never sets. Renew your spirit through the pageantry and splendor of Pentecost services, when birch branches and flowers cover the interiors of Russian churches and cathedrals. Explore the world-renowned cultural and historical sites of St. Petersburg, including the great Hermitage State Museum, the nearby gardens and fountains of the Petrodvorets Palace and the beautifully restored Catherine Palace. Not to be missed is a side trip to the ancient capital of Novgorod. See first-hand MVERN's ministry in the village of Sablino and work together with parishioners as they prepare St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox church for the great celebration of Pentecost.
The trip will cost approximately $3,000 plus airfare and will be led by the Rev. Dr. Dave Cottrill and Dr. Joseph Schenk. As in the past, your guide will be Dr. Igor Tolochin, professor of English at the University of St. Petersburg. Brochures with complete details will be available by mid-August. For additional information please send your name, mailing address and e-mail address to MVERN, c/o Dr. Joseph Schenk, 620 Shafor Blvd., Dayton, OH 45419-3832 or schenk@udayton.edu.
