Congregation audits
Each year every church in the diocese is required to complete a financial audit for the previous year ended December 31. For several years the audit guidelines have not been mailed but can be found on the Diocesan website on the finance page. These guidelines are for audit committees and should be followed when completing the parish audit.
Audits should be completed and sent to the Diocesan finance office by September 2. Please direct any questions to Chief Financial Officer David Robinson at drobinson@diosohio.org or 800.582.1712.

The Right Track: Stories of Justice and Redemption
The Right Track: Stories of Justice and Redemption, a documentary film produced by the Rev. Noel Julnes-Dehner, will be broadcast on June 15, 2013 at 11:30 p.m. on Local 12 WKRC in Cincinnati.
The Right Track features first-person accounts of six people from the greater Cincinnati area who bravely describe their crimes and incarceration, their turning points, and their struggles and victories as they return to society. Also featured are Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters and Common Pleas Judges Nadine Allen and Norbert Nadel. There are hundreds of barriers to housing, employment and education for those who have a felony record. Re-entry is an important topic as over 650,000 people are released from incarceration nationally each year, and almost 2 million Ohio citizens have criminal records.
The film was produced, directed and written by Noel Julnes-Dehner. Sheila Obermeyer of Obermeyer Productions was the assistant director and project manager. The program was made possible, in part, by the Ohio Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
For more information contact Noel Julnes-Dehner at njulnes@gmail.com or 513.679.0976.

Campus Ministries awards $36,700 in grants to six ministries
Six campus ministries applied for program year grants this year. Four of the ministries (Good Shepherd, Athens; Calvary, Clifton; Campus Ministry at Hocking College; and The Downtowners Campus Ministry in Columbus) have received grants before. We are funding The Edge House at University of Cincinnati for the first time, and are very excited by a new campus ministry effort at Wright State University, led by the Rev. Ruth Paulus. Two ministries, at Ohio State University and Holy Trinity, Oxford, did not apply for grants but were active in the grant-making process.
The process is collaborative, involving the various campus ministries in decision-making, along with three non-stakeholders. We learned a great deal about each other's ministries through the grant-making process, and heard of many ideas and initiatives that we can use in our own contexts. Program year grants fund the academic year, providing money for the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters.

June is Pride Month
The Columbus Pride March is June 22. We will begin the day with a Eucharist at Trinity on Capital Square at 10 a.m., lineup is at 11 a.m. and step-off is at 12 noon; parking at Trinity can be found on the surface lots and in the parking garage behind the church.
Why march? Marching in a pride parade will show that you support the GLBTQ persons sitting in your church, your friend, your brother, your sister, mother, father and child. When a GLBTQ person sees a member of his or her congregation marching, they know they are marching for them and for equality; marching is another way of support. We as a church, live equality; we have GLBTQ: members, priests, deacons, choir directors and bishops. When we march, we are showing that our church is living equality in Christ. Please march with us and for us. For questions contact David Soland at Dsoland74@yahoo.com or 614.282.9293
Cincinnati Pride
The Cincinnati Pride Parade is on Saturday, June 29. If you are marching with us, you will need to be at the "check-in" area between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The parade begins at 2 p.m. The "check-in" area will be at the corner of 7th and Calvert Streets. We will march to Sawyer Point. Don't forget to bring a church banner to carry it representing your church. Typically it is as hot as the surface of the sun on this day, so dress appropriately and with sensible shoes. Bring as many friends with you as you wish. We will put them to work carrying the US flag, Episcopal flag, or Integrity banner. After the parade, the festival will be taking place at Sawyer Point Park. |

St. Anne's to 'Be the Church' on X Day
St. Anne's, West Chester, is proud to be an active member of The Faith Alliance of West Chester and Liberty Township. The Faith Alliance is a collaborative network of Christian churches who see value in working side by side to serve the needs of our community. We provide a series of services, share resources, and participate in local outreach activities. The churches of the Faith Alliance take turns hosting a weekly program for 200-300 persons called Stepping Forward. In addition to dinner, low-income families can shop in the food pantry/clothing closet and attend a variety of classes. We continually look for ways to make a huge impact in West Chester/ Liberty Township.
On Sunday, June 23, St. Anne's and 9 other Faith Alliance churches will take part in X Day and it will be truly amazing! The "X" in X Day stands for external and our churches will go outside our walls to serve in Southern Ohio. During our 8 a.m. service, there will be a live stream with all participating churches. We will say a collective prayer, receive a blessing, and then we will go out and BE THE CHURCH! There will be over 1,500 people going to 50+ different sites to work 100+ projects all over Southern Ohio!
What kind of work will we do? Many St. Anne parishioners will walk across the street to help an older disabled woman with home repair and maintenance. Some St. Anne parishioners will go to Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEAC) to clean and organize the food pantry/clothing closet. Other project sites include Pathway to Hope Women's Center, Lifespan Social Services, and the individual homes of many foster families.
Would you like to join with over 1,500 people to be His hands and feet in Southern Ohio? Register online at http://tinyurl.com/Xdays2013. Pictures and videos will be added throughout the day on June 23 so you can follow the work and progress of various projects on the X Days Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/XDays2013. |
St. James Summer Music Camp
Do you know a child who loves music? Are you looking for opportunities to continue that child's musical education during the summer? Then the St. James Summer Music Camp is just the right place for you.
From July 22-26, St. James, Westwood, is hosting a new weeklong summer music camp devoted to private musical study and fellowship. This camp is offered to students ages 9-14, and there are only 24 spots available; 8 for each discipline of voice, piano and guitar. A typical day will be divided into two parts: (1) instrument study and (2) general music appreciation. The instrument study portion will consist of private, one-on-one instruction with a highly qualified music teacher, solo practice time, and a group lesson on a secondary instrument that is brand new to the student. The music appreciation portion will consist of learning how music works in various different ways, as well as attending special presentations on various enticing musical topics by local music specialists. Participants will engage in daily Bible Study on the role of music in the Bible and in worship, as well as many other activities. Lunch will be provided daily. The week will culminate in a Friday night recital and dinner for participants and their families. The faculty consists of several locally respected and renown music teachers of the Cincinnati area. The cost of the camp is $97 for the entire week, which includes 5 daily private lessons, 5 daily group lessons, 2 daily music workshops, daily meals, a Wednesday afternoon excursion, a camp t-shirt, and a post-recital meal. Financial aid is available, and information on how to apply can be found on the St. James website at www.stjamescincy.org.
