Fellowship Program seeks placement sites Floral House fellows

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
~ Mary Oliver

Does your church or organization have a program that needs a little extra help? The Floral House Intentional Community is a diocesan program designed to help recent college graduates discover how God is calling them to put their faith into action. Fellows work at a local placement site, typically a church or service organization in Cincinnati, while living together and participating in reflection and spiritual formation.

Placement sites donate a stipend to cover the cost of living for the Fellow, including rent, food, travel costs, optional health insurance, program activities and retreats.  Service stipends start at $5000 for 10 hours of service per week, up to $15,000 for 37 hours of service per week for 10 months.  The program year runs from September 2013 through June 2014, with the option to extend for up to three years.

The Floral House is part of the Fresh Expressions movement, whose vision is to create a community of people who are transformed by practicing their faith in the world. The Floral House is currently accepting Fellows for the 2013-2014 program year.  See www.praxiscommunities.org for application info, or email Andrea Bardelmeier at abardelmeier@diosohio.org.

The Cincinnati Choral Society will present a concert, "Serving Two Masters," on Saturday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at Indian Hill Episcopal-Presbyterian Church, 6000 Drake Road, Cincinnati OH 45243. The program will feature American composer Howard Helvey, as well as music by Benjamin Britten, in celebration of the centenary of the British composer's birth.

Dr. Douglas K. Belland, the Cincinnati Choral Society's music director, will share the conductor's stand with Helvey, and the singers of the Choral Society will be joined by the Indian Hill Church Choir for part of the program.

Helvey's compositions have been performed around the world by a variety of distinguished choral groups, including the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Oxford Choir (UK) and Pro Musica (Denmark), and by student ensembles from Concordia College, Harvard, and Stanford University, among others. He holds a master's degree in music composition and piano performance from Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. In addition to maintaining a demanding schedule as a composer, arranger, and performer, Helvey serves as organist and choirmaster of Calvary Episcopal Church in Clifton.

General admission to the concert is $15, or $10 for students and seniors (age 60 and up), or $8 each for groups of ten or more. Tickets may be ordered through the CCS website (www.cincinnatichoralsociety.org ); they also will be available at the door.

Time for Phase 2 of virtual tour project

Spring has sprung, and scheduling for Phase 2 of our project to offer 360-degree virtual tours of all our congregations on Google+ has begun.

In 2012, 19 congregations from all around the diocese and the Procter Center were able to add a 360-degree virtual tour to their online presence at no cost to the congregation. These tours are a great way to invite someone to check out your space from the comfort of their own computer - and remove just one more barrier that may be stopping them from becoming a part of your community.

A new, exciting additional benefit is that the tours are now available on mobile Google Maps. That means when someone finds your location on a mobile Google Map, they can view the virtual tour directly from their smartphone!

Several congregations are already in line for this year, and routes are being established to more efficiently photograph each geographic area of the diocese. Are you interested in being one of them? Check out more information at http://www.diosohio.org/google360tours.html to see links to all the existing tours and find out more information about how your church can get on the list. The diocese is committed to finishing this project by 2014, so even if you aren't ready this year, be thinking about scheduling for next year.
