Circle for Health Coverage

Last week, over 2,500 people from across the state braved the wind and rain to ask lawmakers to choose people over politics and extend health coverage to 275,000 Ohioans in the budget. We received lots of the attention by the press but our legislators are still on the fence about accepting federal funds to provide health coverage to more Ohioans.

In order to keep this opportunity in the forefront of our legislator's minds, Ohio Consumers for Health Coverage (OCHC) is organizing a gathering Tuesday afternoon on the lawn of the Statehouse for form a circle around the Statehouse for 15 minutes and take time to reflect, pray and or meditate on the possible extension of health coverage to over 275,00 Ohioans.

Approximately 500 people are needed to complete a circle around the Statehouse. Any gaps that occur will represent the "gaps" in health coverage so many Ohioans will face if health coverage is not extended.

Be part of a historic opportunity to turn the tide in support of people and healthy communities!

When: Tuesday, April 16
Time: Arrive at 12:15pm. Event at 12:30-12:45pm
Where: Statehouse. Broad and High St. Columbus, OH.
What: Linking of hands to encircle the statehouse in reflection of opportunity to extend health coverage to thousands of Ohioans.

Help build house for tornado victim

Ohio Valley Long Term Recovery Committee and Jackson Area Ministries are partnering to construct a new house for a family that lost their home in last year's tornado.  The project is 5 miles south of Bethel on St. Rt. 33. The current plans are for us to work on every Saturday beginning April 13.  Work will start at 9:30 a.m. at the site.

DIRECTIONS:  From Bethel go south on St. Rt. 133 and exactly 5 miles Beech Road turns to the east (right turn for those traveling south)  The actual number is 3202, the property is located on the south side of the road. The goal is to get the beam, joist and flooring done yet this month.  Weather permitting walls will be erected on Saturday, May 4. Please bring hammers and any other basic carpentry tools.  We have electric.

If you can provide any volunteers, call Jackson Area Ministries at 740.286.1320 or contact Mary Woodward, Disaster Coordinator at 740.509.1132 to get scheduled.  May 4 will be a big day!

If you, or someone you know, may be interested in volunteering for a 3-day or week-long session between June 7 and August 6, to serve as our camp nurse, please contact Camp Director, Rob Konkol at youth@diosohio.org
