NetsforLife

Our campaign continues; get the latest bulletin insert

In honor of Bishop Ken and Mariann Price, the Diocese of Southern Ohio has launched a campaign to save lives: a gift of at least $18,000 to Episcopal Relief & Development's NetsforLife® Inspiration Fund. The goal is to raise at least $18,000 - one thousand for each year the Prices have been with us - which will be matched by the Procter Fund. Episcopal Relief & Development is offering a matching program until Dec. 31 -- that means your $25 donation could become $100!

Each net distributed by NetsforLife saves up to three lives -- and the nets cost about $12 each. For the matched amount of $100, 24 people's lives could be forever, immeasurably changed.

Our campaign will run through Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, ending Sunday, Feb. 10. A series of monthly bulletin inserts is available on the diocesan website on the Honor the Prices page. The latest addition to the series, for use December 16 and/or 23, is now posted online or can be downloaded here.

Episcopal Church Parochial Report forms now available

Forms for the Episcopal Church Parochial Report for 2012 are now available  http://www.episcopalchurch.org/page/parochial-report

Congregations should expect to receive the packets by the end of this week - Friday, December 14. Online filing will begin January 2, 2013.

All congregations in the Episcopal Church are canonically required to complete and submit the Parochial Report annually. Data derived from the Parochial Report is used by the Episcopal Church Research Office, dioceses, congregations, and the House of Deputies Committee on the State of the Church to track attendance, trends, membership and other critical information for the purpose of planning mission strategy.

Also available on the web are general instructions for completing the Parochial Report forms as well as line-by-line details listed in the workbooks. All forms are available in English, Spanish and French.

Housing allowance resources for clergy and vestries

The Church Pension Group is providing two samples of housing allowance resolution language that have been excerpted from the upcoming 2013 Clergy Tax Guide (which will be available in mid-February of 2013 at www.cpg.org/taxpubs). It is customary for congregations to address this issue at their December Vestry or Mission Council meetings.

If you have additional questions about the clergy housing allowance, please call the CPG toll-free tax lines:
Mr. Matthew K. Chew, CPA at 877.305.1414 or the Rev. Canon William F. Geisler, CPA at 877.305.1415
or consider consulting a tax professional who is familiar with filing clergy taxes.

Emotional Intelligence and Human Relations Skills workshop

The Center for Emotional Intelligence & Human Relations Skills is offering a five-day Emotional Intelligence and Human Relations Workshop January 7-11 at the Cenacle Retreat and Conference Center in Chicago, IL.

This core EQ HR Center workshop is an intensive 5-day session designed to enable participants to learn about, build, and practice emotional intelligence skills in a small group setting. Skilled facilitators provide tools and feedback to enable participants to learn about themselves and to immediately practice emerging skills. As group life unfolds, participants give and receive feedback regarding the impact they have on others in the group.

Participants will learn both inter-personal and intra-group communication skills.  The content of the workshop revolves around the five areas of emotional intelligence as keys to improving leadership effectiveness for faith based leaders.

As part of this core event, workshop participants complete a comprehensive self-assessment of their emotional intelligence. They also identify up to 20 people who know them well and are willing to complete the same assessment in order to provide valuable feedback. What results is a detailed report of one's Emotional Intelligence strengths and development needs. This will be for the participant's eyes only and will provide possible personal items to be explored in one's small group.
