Advent: Waiting, hoping, watching

++KJS Advent message
Noting that Advent is a time of waiting for "the coming of the Prince of Peace, the one who will reign with justice over this world," Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori focuses on two questions in her Advent 2012 message: "What is it that you are most waiting for? And, how are you going to wait this year? "

Be the change you want to see

Is God calling you to serve? Bishop Breidenthal announced at diocesan convention the formation of a task force on restructuring. Don't be fooled by the name: this is an invitation for innovation and creativity, an opportunity to be part of re-shaping the diocese for the 21st century

The development of the task force was a key recommendation of one of the ministry priority teams. The goal is to put in place structures that support and expand the common ministry of the diocese.

If you feel called to this work, please complete the nomination form. The deadline is Nov. 30. The strategy five team will review the nominations and select a task force to be announced in December.

Diocese of Southern Ohio: Part of the climate solution

The 138th Diocesan Convention endorsed the Energy Stewards and Energy Audit Programs of Ohio Interfaith Power and Light and encourages all congregations and diocesan facilities to set goals to reduce energy consumption by 15% over the next three years.  Find out more about saving energy in your congregation through Ohio Interfaith Power and Light's Energy Stewards and Energy Audits programs by attending the Energy Stewardship for Houses of Worship webinar. There are three more opportunities for you to attend this webinar in 2012, so we hope you will attend, encourage others to attend, and pass along the information so other congregations in your community take part in energy saving activities.

Through Energy Stewards, your congregation will be connected to other congregations around Ohio who are taking their energy use seriously, just like you! You'll discover over eighty ways to simply and effectively reduce your energy use. You'll receive assistance in deciding what would be best for your facility, and how to save money. Your congregation can join Procter Camp and Conference Center as an Energy Steward member and be part of the climate solution!

Diocesan Cycle of Prayer

The duty of all Christians is to follow Christ; to come together week by week for corporate worship; and to work, pray, and give for the spread of the kingdom of God.

Our Diocesan Cycle of Prayer is listed both in a perpetual calendar and a Word document on the diocesan website and is updated frequently.

Worship Leader training

Worship leader training will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Procter Center.

A Worship Leader is a lay person who regularly leads public worship under the direction of the Member of the Clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith.  (Canon III.4.4)

Worship leaders are to be recommended for training by the Rector, Vicar or Priest-in-charge of their congregation. In communities of faith where there is no established regular clergy presence, the participant should be recommended for training by the senior/bishop's warden of the congregation.

Applicants can register for Worship Leader training at https://diosohio.wufoo.com/forms/worship-leader-training-2012/

For more information, contact the Rev. Canon Lynn Carter-Edmands at lcarter-edmands@diosohio.org or 800.582.1712.
Anti-Racism training

Anti-Racism training will be held at Procter Center on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This meets the requirements for newly elected and appointed lay and clergy leadership to complete anti-racism training within the first 12 months of their appointment.

Anti-racism training consists of two parts: the training day and a follow-up meeting that will be scheduled on training day. This is an anti-racism workshop and not a diversity or multi-cultural workshop. Cost is $10 for lunch.

Music news from Christ Church Cathedral

Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth to perform at Saengerfest

The Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth will perform at the Christmas Saengerfest, a two-day festival taking place on December 14 and 15. American Legacy Tours organized this holiday event, inspired by the enthusiasm surrounding the World Choir Games held in Cincinnati over the summer.

The festival will feature 20 choirs from Over-the-Rhine and the Cincinnati area performing at seven historical venues. The Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth will perform twice at the festival, at 5 and 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 15 at First Lutheran Church.

The Saengerfest has a long tradition in Cincinnati and was the city's first major festival. Music Hall was originally built to host this festival, which attracted thousands of people to Over-the-Rhine. KellyAnn Nelson, Christ Church Cathedral's associate musician for children and youth, has played an important role in the organization of this festival.

Tickets are $15 per day and can be purchased at www.christmassaengerfest.com/tickets.

Music Live at Lunch performances in December

Music Live at Lunch, Christ Church Cathedral's weekly concert series, will feature the following performers in December:

December 4: Walnut Hills High School Choir; Lisa Peters, director (nave)
December 11: Kyle Meadows, hammered dulcimer; Tisa McGraw, Celtic harp
December 18: Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols: Christ Church Cathedral Choir (nave)

These free concerts are presented on Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. Patrons may bring their lunch or buy one at the cathedral for $5.

Christ Church Cathedral is located at 318 East Fourth Street, downtown Cincinnati. All performances are in the Centennial Chapel unless listed as being in the cathedral nave. For more information, call 513.621.1817.
NetsforLife

In honor of Bishop Ken and Mariann Price, the Diocese of Southern Ohio has launched a campaign to save lives: a gift of at least $18,000 to Episcopal Relief & Development's NetsforLife® Inspiration Fund. The goal is to raise at least $18,000 - one thousand for each year the Prices have been with us - which will be matched by the Procter Fund. Plus ERD recently announced a matching program until Dec. 31 -- that means your $25 donation could become $100.

Each net distributed by NetsforLife saves up to three lives -- and the nets cost about $12 each. For the matched amount of $100, that's 24 people whose lives could be forever, immeasurably changed.

Our campaign will run through Avent and Epiphany, ending Sunday, Feb. 10. For more information visit  http://www.diosohio.org/honortheprices.html.
