| Great Cookie Caper at St. Thomas Dec. 8
Christmas and cookies go together! Sometimes getting around to baking the holiday cookies challenges our busy holiday schedules. If you would like to choose from an extensive assortment of homemade Christmas cookies and candy for the holidays without all the work, come to the 3rd Annual Great Cookie Caper at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 8, 2012, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. St. Thomas Church is located at 100 Miami Avenue, Terrace Park, Ohio. The church is just off Route 50, convenient to Milford, Indian Hill, Mariemont, and only minutes from I-275. In addition to providing yourself, your family and friends with an array of delicious cookies and candies, you will be helping those who struggle with providing day to day essentials for their families. The Great Cookie Caper benefits Inter Parish Ministry and the St. Thomas Discretionary Fund which in turn aid those in need. Last year nearly $8000 was raised through the sale of cookies by the pound, homemade candy and the raffle of a beautiful handcrafted quilt. Choose your own selection of treats to be weighed and boxed with a ribbon for gift giving or for your own festivities. The event will also feature live music, kids' activities including a train chugging through the festivities, all amid Christmas trimmings 'round the Parish Hall. For presale large orders for family or corporate gift giving, contact the St. Thomas Church office at 513.831.2052, before November 24. Christmas on the River gift item collection
Last year, Seaman's Church Institute provided holiday gifts to some 16,000 professional mariners aboard more than a thousand commercial towing vessels up and down the river system through its storied "Christmas on the River" outreach.
All year long, around four thousand knitters across twelve time zones have been hard at work creating beautiful hats and scarves to present to mariners working at Christmas. Each member of the crew receives a handknit gift, arriving in a cheerful package with handwritten cards, a greeting from the chaplain and other small Christmas gifts. For those items accompanying the knitted goods, SCI must rely on donations from supportive churches, individuals and/or businesses. Take a look at the list below. Most of these are found at local supermarkets or in a stash of a company's logo-branded items. While they may seem small, such thoughtfully selected gifts make a big difference in the lives of those who receive them. If your family, organization or company can help, please e-mail cas@seamenschurch.org Warm the hearts of river mariners far from home at Christmas with gifts of: * Handmade Christmas Cards * Unscented, Colorless Lip Balm * Unscented, Hypoallergenic Hand Lotion (2-4oz bottles) * Sealed Packages of Holiday Sweets * Books or Activities like Sudoku, word searches, or playing cards * Facial Tissue (personal size) * Microwave Popcorn * Chewing Gum * DVD's of recent, first-run movies (new or used) All items must be in new and unused condition and in their original packaging. We cannot accept items that are used or unsealed. Christ Church Cathedral's annual COR pack-out is set for Saturday, December 8, from 8:30 a.m. until about noon. Volunteers are very welcome - please contact Megan Emery, CCC's COR coordinator at meganemery@hotmail.com For other questions about COR or to arrange pick-up of collected items, please contact the Rev. Kempton D. Baldridge, Chaplain for the Ohio River Region at 270.575.1005.
