Greetings
I always seem to experience a general warming of my soul with the onset of spring, along with a spark in creativity and motivation. Longer days, more fresh air, and bright sunshine make it a joy to get up in the mornings and generally inspire a sunnier outlook. Lately I've been hyper-aware how this subtle shift seems to positively impact the people around me; the warming trend naturally extends into my personal and work relationships, even interactions at the grocery store seem more positive! My environment (literally) inspires a positive emotional response, which is resonating with the people around me.

Taking a Page from Nature:
What You Resonate as a Leader Grows
|
This got me wondering how, as leaders, can we replicate this phenomenon in our leadership and have it resonate throughout the culture we are cultivating with our teams? I think the real power here lies in the concept of resonance. If you've created something impactful, positive or negative, resonance is the force that carries that energy throughout all of the day-to-day interactions of the people existing within that environment. The more interconnected, cohesive, and consistent your culture is, the stronger the resonance of whatever energy is being created. Naturally, leaders want this to be positive energy that will translate to highly motivated, productive, and happy teams. So what is the secret to resonating positively as a leader and growing a resonate culture? How do we harness the 'sunshine effect' and create an 'organizational greenhouse' that encourages growth and well-being among our teams?
I firmly believe that if you lead culture with high emotional intelligence, you naturally cultivate an environment that encourages high performance and strong well-being among your employees. A leader who exudes trust, empathy, compassion, and awareness fosters the perfect environment, or 'greenhouse,' to grow a culture rooted in those very ideals. What you resonate as a leader grows. For example, when you lead with compassion by truly seeking to understand what people need to thrive, what sustains them, what they're passionate about, and what energizes them, you implicitly create, model, and reinforce compassion among your team. So much of what we do and feel is a product of our conditions and environment. Resonate leaders project the right conditions employees need to start translating those very values into their own lives at work and beyond.
I recently came across a podcast discussion for Harvard Business Review's IdeaCast with Annie McKee, co-founder of the Teleos Leadership Institute and co-author of the book Primal Leadership, that captures this idea beautifully. McKee points out that while "you may have the capacity for great leadership yourself, if you don't create a culture in your organization that allows people to thrive, that allows people to lead at all levels of your organization, chances are you're not going to get results... Great leaders create cultures that are ripe with emotional intelligence, that are ripe with opportunity, and allow people to take calculated risks, see the future, and move toward it."
What's resonating in your organization today? What can you do as a leader to start growing something amazing with your team?
Warmly,
Bea
