Market Summary
November 2014

October was a BIG DEAL!

And for many following the events of the month, it was absolutely gut wrenching at times.

First, October continued September's slide, but it was around the 3rd week of October that extreme volatility took hold. We saw all major US indexes move into negative territory for the year, with the S&P 5001 dropping a whopping 9.9%2 from peak to trough in a span of a couple weeks!

The Dow saw over 2/3rd's of it's trading days with swings of over 100 points. In just a couple of weeks, we saw more volatility than we've seen in almost 2 years.

Our Management Philosophy

Market Summary Continued

While scary, it was also a good reminder to the overall investor complacency that has set in that things don't always go smoothly and that markets can drop FAST once support has broken down.

Then, just as fast as things had slipped over a 4 week timeframe, the markets turned, recovering the losses from the first few weeks of October. A roller coaster ride it was! However, as always, we stayed focused and attentive throughout the month to make the best decisions for our clients.

And, while we lightened up some in the beginning of the month, we saw the confirmation of an uptrend in the markets late October, allowing us to take a larger equity position through the end of the year and hopefully into 2015.
