Fresno EOC to Assist Local Mexican National

Victims of Human Trafficking

Fresno EOC's Central Valley Against Human Trafficking (CVAHT) project provides support services to victims of slavery and trafficking in the counties of: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced and Tulare. In the interest of promoting respect for human rights, specialized victim services has been identified as a need for a considerable number of Mexican nationals in the US.

David Preciado, Head Consul at the Consulate of Mexico in Fresno, praised this new collaboration and declared that this strategic partnership is an accomplishment of the protection activities of the consulate. He declared, "It is important to work together to empower Mexican victims so that they can ask for help, without being afraid of repercussions based on their immigration status or other factors."Read more here.

White House Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships
Releases Groundbreaking New Report on Ending Poverty

Faith in Public Life celebrates the release of the President's Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships' (PAFBNP) groundbreaking new report titled,

Strengthening Efforts to Increase Opportunity and End Poverty

In this report, the council provides recommendations to the President to increase opportunity and reduce inequality.

Key Recommendations Made By the Council:

Implement the Sustainable Development of Goals in America, including a commitment to end extreme poverty and hunger by 2030.
Act to prevent and relieve lead poisoning, specifically in federally assisted housing.
Examine and address racial equity through federal agencies.
Commit to increasing engagement with forums that promote racial reconciliation.
Recognize and address the emotional harm, trauma and diminished social ties experienced by individuals, families and communities living in poverty in addition to their material needs.

Poverty Crosses Party Lines

As Election Day approaches, voters should be paying attention to what down-ballot candidates-particularly those running for the House of Representatives-have to say about these issues. The Brookings Institue conducted an analysis of poverty and district political party affiliation. Their recent analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data finds that the challenges of poverty cut across the political divide and touch all 436 congressional districts.

The Partnership is pleased to collaborate with the National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) to provide our next national webinar series event, Decreasing Family Homelessness Session 4: Young Children Experiencing Homelessness.

This webinar, part of the Decreasing Family Homelessness Webinar Series, will examine homelessness among very young children and their families. Speakers will provide an overview of the research on the extent and impact of homelessness among young children, examine federal policy initiatives designed to improve their access to early education, and how state and local partners are working to improve the integration of housing and early child development services. The role of community action agencies in facilitating the integration of housing and child services will also be explored.

Justice and Equity in a 100% Renewable World

Access to energy confers wealth-and power. As our energy system goes through a profound transformation away from fossil fuels, there will no doubt be winners and losers. Webinar panelist will discuss the future of energy democracy in a 100% renewable world and share examples of nations and communities working to ensure justice in the face of the renewable energy transition. Panelist will also explore such important questions as:

What needs to happen in order for the renewable energy future to be more just, and not less just, than the present?
What kinds of government policies or grassroots efforts will lead to more equity?
The transition to renewable energy will certainly be disruptive economically. What might that mean for the social and political power of currently disadvantaged populations?

Nonprofit Capital: How to Think Differently about Its Use in Your Organization

Understanding your nonprofit's capital structure is a critical part of skillfully managing a sustainable nonprofit. But in the nonprofit sector the notion of capital is often misunderstood to the extent that it becomes self-limiting. The goal for this webinar is to help participants better understand and work to optimize their organization's capital structure, identify key sources and uses of capital, and understand how to budget for and monitor capital grants and expenditures over time. Panelist will discuss how nonprofits typically obtain capital and how that capital can be put to use not only to acquire a hard asset like a building, but also to build the capacity of your nonprofit to recover from past economic shocks, innovate, or scale up.

Immigrants in Rural Communities:
New Data Analysis from UNH Carsey School

What do we know about the growing number of immigrants living in rural communities in the United States? A recent brief from UNH's Carsey School of Public Policy found that rural immigrants, compared to native-born neighbors, are more racially and ethnically diverse, more likely to have children, more likely to be working age, and more likely to be working poor.

These key findings offer some insight to how rural communities are changing given the growing number of immigrant families living in rural communities--from 2012 to 2014 nearly one-third of net-new rural residents were immigrants. According to the brief published last month, 1.6 million residents in rural communities were born outside of the United States.
