COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH 2016 TOOLKIT

(April 25, 2016) - Today, the National Community Action Partnership released the 2016 edition of its annual Community Action Month Toolkit.

The toolkit provides Community Action Agencies, State Associations/RPICs, State CSBG Offices, and the Community Action National Partners with resources to help the Network coordinate efforts and highlight Community Action work across the US.

"Community Action Month marks a commemoration of family and community achievements, as well as an opportunity to spotlight the great work done by Community Action Agencies all year long," said Denise Harlow. "This toolkit is designed to help showcase CAAs' impact, dedication, and role in the community. It provides tools and ideas on how to spotlight the ways Community Action helps people with low incomes move out of poverty and into economic stability."

Toolkit highlights include:
  • Community Action Month calendar - including key dates for national events and commemorations throughout the month. Includes ideas that can be implemented at the local level, in some cases at no to little expense;
  • Suggested activities - both within a local agency as well  as larger scale community-based events;
  • Tips for media outreach - includes sample press release and sample proclamation; and
  • Social media content - inlcudes options to put to use today and this list will be updated and shared weekly with the Network. We encourage the use of the hashtag #BeCommunityAction on all posts, tweets, etc. so we can easily capture the breadth of the information being shared.
"We anticipate pictures, volunteer days, infographics, Facebook posts, tweets, and Instagram pics from across the country," Harlow said. "We hope that you will celebrate board members, share community success stories, and honor the work of your local CAA. You are part of a national commitment to helping people and changing lives. The Partnership looks forward to celebrating this commitment with you. Let's continue to #BeCommunityAction!".
