NEW ANALYSIS OF ACCESS TO CHILD CARE SUBSIDIES, HEAD START FIND DISPARATE ACCESS BY RACE, ETHNICITY, AND STATE
|
C LASP's brief, which presents a unique analysis of data reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by Head Start programs and state child care agencies, confirms very low levels of access nationally to all the programs, because of the large gap between current investment and need. Less than half of eligible preschool-aged children participate in Head Start, less than one in six eligible children receive child care subsidies funded through the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), and fewer than 5 percent of eligible infants and toddlers participate in Early Head Start (EHS).

REMINDERS ON COMMENTING ON CANDIDATES AND CAMPAIGNS
|
Bolder Advocacy, an initiative of Alliance for Justice, has released a fact sheet with IRS guidance and specific examples of "do's" and "don'ts" for nonprofits to follow during this election year. Candidates for elected public office sometimes say things that are incorrect, or with which nonprofits disagree, and nonprofits may wish to set the record straight. While 501(c)(3) organizations may continue to engage in education and advocacy to promote their issues during the election season, they are strictly prohibited from supporting or opposing candidates for public office. So how can 501(c)(3) organizations respond to candidates or political parties and remain nonpartisan? By being very deliberate and careful with their statements. Call for Workshops is Now Open
Do you have a workshop idea for August 2016? Community Action Partnership wants to hear about it! The Call for Workshops is open now until March 11.
We welcome proposals from Community Action Agencies, State and Regional Associations, national partners, and experts in the field of nonprofit and public administration. We are looking for workshops that relate to our overall theme of Building Resilience as well as fit into our tracks:
* Effective Administration and Governance (such as finance, human resources, technology usage, planning, board governance, leadership, etc.)
* Promising Anti-Poverty Practices (such as program models; approaches to tackling the causes and conditions of poverty; working with special populations such as veterans, children, seniors, etc.) * Strategies to Increase Visibility (such as branding, marketing, communications, fundraising, etc.) Research, Policy, and Action (such as big data, setting a policy agenda, education and advocacy, etc.) * Performance at the Front Line (skill building for intake and case managers such as coaching, human behavior, cultural competency, crisis intervention, customer service, etc.)
Note there are a couple of differences between this year's call for Workshops and years past. Performance at the Frontline is receiving more emphasis as a dedicated track, you are asked how your workshop fits with the theme and track, we are looking for more specificity on the intended audience of your workshop, and you no longer have to put in the biographies of your co-presenters or you're A/V needs at this point in time.
The Call for Workshops is available online at
