VETERAN SERVICES WORKSHOPS AT PARTNERSHIP CONVENTION

In recent years, the surge in veteran-based federal grants, national initiatives, and community planning underscores the tremendous energy and funding dedicated to tackling the issues facing veterans as they re-integrate into communities across the country. To highlight the importance of services directed at the nation's veteran population, the Partnership's Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) department will be hosting the following trainings at the 2015 Annual Convention:

*    Combating Homelessness Panel : An Overview of Transforming Community Models
This panel discussion includes representatives from Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and the Military, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, and Swords to Plowshares. The panel will provide a nuanced discussion on the trends and state of homelessness, and the efficacy of cutting edge programs and models aimed at eradicating it.

*    The Art of Providing Supportive Services for Homeless Veterans in Rural and Urban Communities
Over the next several years, hundreds of thousands of veterans will continue to re-enter civilian life, and be confronted with challenges such as unemployment, lack of job training, and homelessness. This session will offer insight into the array of supportive services needed to ensure veteran families overcome hardship and adjust and thrive in their communities.

*    Equipping CAAs to Better Serve Veterans
Veterans often face tremendous challenges following discharge from the military.  It is essential that CAAs serving veterans be equipped to understand the challenges veterans face, and offer impactful programs to assist them and their families.  This session will provide an analysis of the challenges facing the veteran community, and highlight best practices for CAAs that serve them.

SSVF - Driving Impact: The Case for Local, Evidenced-Based Coordination in Veteran and Military Family Services and the AmericaServes Initiative
Based on the white paper published by Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families, this session will offer attendees a greater understanding of the gaps in services that exist for veteran families, and will focus on the positive power of community coordination, collaboration, and collective purpose among organizations that serve veterans and their families.  Read more about the IVMF white paper at http://vets.syr.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Driving-Community-Impact.pdf

To get expert insight and best practices on the ever-expanding field of veteran services, be sure to register for the Partnership's 2015 Annual Convention, and look for these SSVF trainings under the "Innovative Programs" track. We look forward to seeing you in August!
