CSBG ORGANIZATIONAL STANDARDS FOR BOARDS
What do they mean (and not mean) for boards?
Use this short two-pager on what boards of Private (nonprofit) CAAs can expect out of the CSBG Organizational Standards as a beginning discussion piece for your CAA's governing board. Overall responsibility does not change, but more policies, reports, and data may be coming to the board (or coming more frequently) than previously.

VIDEO SERIES FOR CAA BOARDS ON CSBG ORGANIZATIONAL STANDARDS
NEW short video guidance on each standards category
View this 10 part series of short (15 minutes or less) videos that walk through the COE-developed CSBG Organizational Standards for Private (nonprofit) CEEs. These videos review each of the 58 Standards and highlight how they relate to the oversight role of a Community Action board. RESOURCE TO HELP SCHEDULE YOUR REQUIRED ACTIONS FOR CSBG ORGANIZATIONAL STANDARDS
NEW resource divides Standards into categories to help you keep a calendar
A " Calendar of Required Actions" and " Calendar of Board Actions" has been developed as a resource for Private (nonprofit) CSBG Eligible Entities (CEEs) to help you internally plan and track what actions must be taken and when. For the Calendar of Required Actions each of the 58 COE-developed CSBG Organizational Standards is placed into one of six categories:
- Maintained
- More Frequently Than Annual/As Needed
- Annually
- Every 2 Years
- Every 3 Years
- Every 5 Years
Each Standard has a box next to it to easily turn this tool into a checklist.
In the Calendar of Board Action the same categories are used, with an additional section for related Standards. This tool does not contain all 58 Standards, but lists those that specifically require review, approval, or other action by the governing board. The related Standards category includes Standards that do not specifically mention the governing board, but are part of a larger organizational process that involved the governing board (such as strategic planning or community assessment). Each of the Standards in this tool also has a box next to it to make this into a checklist. OPEN ENROLLMENT PATHWAYS TRAINING
June 23-24
Dallas, TX
Pathways is the Partnership's premier organizational capacity building initiative. Pathways uses 35 Standards of Excellence that define the very best practices for Community Action Agencies.
The Pathway to Excellence Program begins with a two-day training session covering the Standards and how to apply the Organizational Self-Study as a rigorous diagnostic tool that identifies strengths to build on and critical areas to improve. Agencies typically bring teams of four to five staff who in turn lead the Self-Study process back home, providing an excellent opportunity to build the "leadership bench" of your organization. You then have nine months to complete the Self-Study, supported by monthly webinars and/or conference calls with the Partnership staff and consultants. Finally, an expert team of peer-reviewer trained in the Pathways process provides your agency with a comprehensive feedback report within three months that lays out a detailed improvement process and clear next steps for moving down the Pathway to Excellence.
More information about Pathways, enrollment costs, and the application form are accessible on the Partnership's website here.
