Fresh Fruit Snack Shack Open Daily
3-red-apples.jpg iLEAD Lancasters learners have been racing to the Snack Shack to purchase fresh fruit! Prices range from $0.25 to $0.50 per fruit, including options such as bananas, apples, and oranges. The fruit is available for sale at morning recess and iExplore extended care every day. If you're interested in having these healthy food options available for your child, simply send money with your learner each day.

2015-16 School Year Begins Monday, 8/31
Our school calendar for 2015-16 is posted on our website and here. Thank you to all our families who gave us input on our calendar for next year.
iEXPLORE Summer Camp
We're excited to bring our iLEAD families our first annual iEXPLORE summer camp. The camp will include water games, dance, musical theater, boxing at Santos Boxing, crafts and lots more fun in the sun! The camp is scheduled for June 22 through August 7. The cost for a week full of fun is $120 per learner. If you're interested, please e-mail Michelle at  michelle.hernandez@ileadlancaster.org or call her at 661-444-8336. As soon as we confirm there is enough interest, we will move forward with a registration day for your learners.
Remember Your Valet Card
Please remember to bring your valet card when you pick up your learners through valet. Although we've gotten to know many of you, having your valet card makes it easier to identify you and call for your child. Occasionally someone besides Andrew may be calling for learners on the walkie-talkie. Having the valet card visible makes the system more efficient. We thank you for your support as we work to keep our learners safe and our valet system running smoothly.
From Lancaster, California, It's iSTRUM Live!
Mr. Andrew, the Exploratorium facilitator and a self-taught guitarist, is ready to bring iSTRUM Live! to iLEAD Lancaster Learners. iSTRUM Live! will give our learners an opportunity to learn to play guitar and read music, while developing a cohesive musical group.

Got Guitars?
With guitar in his hand and love of music in his heart, Mr. Andrew invites you to partner with him in collecting acoustic guitars, preferably with steel strings. Spread the word that the Guitar Man is in town and needs donations of guitars for our learners! And if you see our learners learning to strum at the amphitheater with Mr. Andrew, be sure to stop a moment to listen and enjoy! It's always a good day at iLEAD!
We Need Our Learners at School
Why is attendance an important issue?

Did you know?
Regular attendance is vital to a learner's  success in school. The learner who is frequently absent misses social interaction and opportunities for project exploration. Any day or hour absent is a missed learning opportunity.

Did you know? A school loses funding for each absence, regardless of the reason.

Did you know? Learners who are going to be absent for any length of time may be able to go on independent study. Please contact the school about the possibility of going on short-term independent study.

To report an absence, please call the office or send a note.
Parking Reminder - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
We thank you for listening to us and being good neighbors to the businesses around us. Since we sent out our notification phone call, our families have listened and have parked in the iLEAD Lancaster parking lots.

iLEAD families are invited to park in the lots to the immediate east and west sides of the school.
Please do not park in the east lot that is farther away from our school. That is not part of iLEAD Lancaster Charter School. Cars parked there may be ticketed or towed. Use only the first driveway east of the school.
Show Your School Spirit
iLEAD Lancaster T-shirts are available in the office and online. Sweatshirts are available only online.

iLEAD School Tours - Mondays @ 9 a.m.
New iLEAD families, this is your chance to take a tour of iLEAD Lancaster if you haven't yet. Also, many of our families have mentioned that they have friends and family who would like to have their children attend iLEAD Lancaster. We hope to have more families join our wonderful, unique community. We have tours scheduled every Monday at 9:00, followed by a question-and-answer period. Tell your friends and family.

Please call us at 661-722-4287 or e-mail us at office@ileadlancaster.org to schedule a tour. We look forward to providing more Antelope Valley children with the opportunity to be part of iLEAD Lancaster.
Don't Forget Your Volunteer Hours
iLEAD seeks to make education a community passion. To this end, parent participation is essential to the success of the education process.  It is because of families like you that we are able to offer such a unique program for our children here at iLEAD. Families attending iLEAD agree to commit to 4 hours per month or 40 hours per year of participation.

Examples of iLEAD Family Volunteer Work
  • In-class support as an educator aide
  • Adult workshops: parents teaching other parents
  • Attending Parent University offerings (Love and Logic, 7 Habits)
  • Outside research in support of specific school projects
  • Coordinating or assisting at a school community event (family movie night, science night, math night)
  • Driving on field trips (must register as driver)
  • Hosting an activity in your home or business
  • Coaching or operating an after-school enrichment class
  • Organizing a community service project for learners
  • Supervising at the school: lunch periods, front desk
  • Assisting with morning valet
  • Operation support: maintenance of the campus
  • Recruiting event participation (booths, fairs, marketing materials)
Families having difficulties meeting the participation commitment should contact Office Manager Laura Henriquez at laura.henriquez@ileadschools.org or stop by the office to speak with her.

We thank our families who are volunteering their time and talent, and we look forward to having all our families participate as part of our school community.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Habit of the Month: SHARPEN THE SAW
Habit 7 is Sharpen the Saw. It is the habit of renewal. To maintain and increase our effectiveness, we must renew ourselves in body, heart, mind, and soul. This improves our capacity, builds stronger relationships, and allows for continuous improvement. Building greater reserves builds the strength we need for those hard moments when we need to show the grit, determination, and patience that are the hallmarks of a strong character.

Sharpening the Saw is what a lumberjack must do in order to cut wood efficiently and effectively. The same applies to the scissors of the seamstress, the paintbrushes of the painter, and the tools of the craftsman. Studying this habit brings to mind the story of the goose and the golden eggs. Taking care of the goose will ensure the continued yield of golden eggs.

Taking care of ourselves is an investment. It takes time, planning, and commitment. Do you recall the lessons of earlier habits? Get out of the urgency quadrant by reducing stress. Eat well and exercise to ensure physical strength and energy. Get enough sleep, and never let the things that matter least take precedence over the things that matter the most.

Dr. Covey asks us to assume, for a moment, that we've had a heart attack in the last month. How would you approach exercise and nutrition? We all know the basic facts about healthy living, but do we REALLY take the time to incorporate these valuable habits into our daily routines? Sharpening the Saw means taking the time for oneself, to make a commitment to care better for our most valued relationships by ensuring we are optimizing our own spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health.
iLEAD Sparkles
5th Graders Explore History & Government
Our 5th graders enjoyed a fun and educational field trip to the Ronald Reagan Library! It fit in perfectly with our study of U.S. history and government. We also had a guest speaker from Palmdale Sanitation who gave us tons of ideas on ways to conserve water during times of drought.

6th Graders Spread the STREAM Movement
Last Wednesday and Thursday a small group of 6th/7th grade iLEAD learners attended the STREAM AV Expo at Rancho Vista Golf Course. Learners participated in interactive exhibits and helped spread the STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, and Math) movement.

GoSchooler Wins the Crown
Faith Khosrawabadi competed in the Junior Miss Lancaster Pageant on Saturday, May 2. She won Miss Enterprise, Miss Congeniality, and Junior Miss Lancaster. Faith was interviewed by three judges, was judged in a parade of beauty on presence and poise, and she wrote, memorized, and presented her speech to an audience.

The pageant theme was the 1980s. Faith chose to write about female role models of the 1980s. She spoke about Sally Ride, the first female astronaut, and Mary Lou Retton, the first American female gymnast to win a gold medal.

She was asked if chosen to be Jr. Miss Lancaster, what would she most look forward to doing. She spoke about serving the community, making Lancaster a better place, and being a role model for other kids.

Her new responsibilities include a year of community service for Lancaster. At the Fire Service Day, Faith helped sell plush toy dalmatian puppies to help raise money for burn victims and their families. Faith will also be doing other fund-raisers throughout their year to help the Lancaster community and the Antelope Valley.
